I tried it and all I got was blank screen. I could hear the engine
responding to me applying throttle but as I said no graphics. Cursor was
visible and I just clicked the lower right corner to get into the car.
There are OpenGL beta 2.1 drivers that I have instaled although I don't know
why ( just in case ).

You're most likely using the default Microsoft software OpenGL driver.

Who the heck is this?? why would you want to do that??? Some people don't
understand what the voodoo 2 card is for.  They think if they use OpenGL
they will get high resolutions like us TNT owners.

I had the same problem at first.  I went and installed the Nvidia .036a
reference drivers (i think that's what they were called)... went back into
Grand Prix Legends.. and although my menus looked great.. I was getting the
black screen with sound.. so I decided to go back and remove my TNT card
from device properties and have Win98 reinstall the STB drivers... I then
went back into GPL and although my menus were screwy again, the actual game
worked!!!!

No more crappy glide!!! YEAH!!!!
at 1280x1024 resolution.. that 'looking through a fine mesh screen' look I
get with my voodoo is no longer, it is almost too damn good on my TNT.  Now
if only I could get Nvidia/STB to fix the driver problems with those
mirrors.. then I'll NEVER drop below 36fps.

Let's all bow down to the TNT owners, who can run it slowly at higher res
than those of us with the pitifully inadequate Voodoo 2, that get's 25-30

functioning menus, mirrors, etc.  And pity those poor Rendition guys, who
not only have to endure similar performance, but can also run N2 and ICR2 at
a solid 30fps with everything on.  And the horror that we've all had to
endure running this thing at yucky low-res 800x600 or 1024x768 for the last
several weeks when we coulda waited for the patch, and run out and bought a
new video card.

Guy, you can run the game, be happy with it - those with Voodoo 1 + 2's and
Renditions can also run it, and have been happy with it.  You think because
you spent $200 on a video card and it can benchmark higher than someone
else's you're some sorta computer stud, it plays games, period, that's the
whole point.  So do all the Voodoos and Renditions and what have you, and
the owners of those probably aren't running out to buy a TNT because it runs
a bit faster and with higher resolutions.  I hope you don't develop a
complex when some new 3dfx or Rendition or whatever card comes out and
out-does your TNT, and something will, trust me.  Or the envy when the .25
micron process TNT's show up and outrun the current ones.  I may put a TNT
alongside the V2, but I'm gonna wait for the FAST one.

Well,  I don't know what's wrong with my system, but I have both a TNT and a
Voodoo2
installed here and both show at least a 10 FPS frame hit when in car.
Obviously, it is something wrong with my system.

1024x768 3dfx - Outside View - 34> almost always.
1024x768 3dfx - In car view - 24> almost always.

Obviously,  I have something set wrong, since you get 36 either in or out of
car.

Some of us didn't  " run out and buy a new video card ".  Some went out and
bought new systems recently.  And some of us didn't see the need to purchase
one card for 2d and another for 3d, much less 2 extra cards for 3d.  Then
again, some of us did have Voodoo 2 cards in other, slower systems, and
tested them.  So far,  both work well, but " I " just hapen to like the look
of the TNT better, even with the frame rate hit.

Bow down if you wish,  but when you stand up,  please pull your head out
when you stand up.

Actually, I was kind of curious when I saw the post.
I didn't think it'd run better than the Glide version, but since Quake
uses a mini-GL driver with good results I thought it was an
interesting idea.

What's with the animosity? I have a V2 card, and I'm looking at
getting a TNT.
I want to free up a PCI slot (have a PCI 2D card now) with an AGP card
I might as well get a great card.

Still gonna wait until Riva builds it like they originally advertised
it though.  They cheaped out in the rush to get them on the market,
and they're clocked slower than the original spec.

You really cant run the OpenGL with a V2..the V2 ships a mini-GL ICD for
quake2 which only has as much stuff as Q2 needs....the GPL OPenGL rasterizer
needs a full open-GL ICD which only the TNT and the g200 series have...
