GPL: OpenGL patch and Riva 128 card

by Wolfgang Prei » Fri, 30 Oct 1998 04:00:00

Subject line already says it: has anyone gotten the openGL patch to
work with a Riva 128 based card? Is it even possible? I tried to
install the patch on my "backup machine" with an Elsa Victory Erazor
card. The OpenGL option appears in the list of available rasterizers,
but if I select it and restart the sim, the program defaults back to
the software rasterizer. The ini file shows the openGL dll as last
rasterizer used, however. I have OpenGL drivers installed for the
card. Hmmm?

Yes. Me.

Sure is.

Diamond Viper V330 4MB AGP (nVidia Riva 128)

Using nVidia reference drivers. Simply unzipped the 2 files from
Papy's patch into my GPL dir, started the sim and selected the Open GL
option from the game's drop down menu. Re-started the sim and ran it
in 640x480. It ran like a charm about 25-30fps or 5fps slower than my
Monster 3D Voodoo does for the same game (full everything) settings.
Fairly impressive installation, performance and graphics overall. Was
troublesome to uninstall though. I couldn't just deselect it from the
ingame options. Had to remove the .dll from my GPL directory to
reselect the 3Dfx driver which I'm using now.

Usable though if you didn't want to go with a 3Dfx or Rendition, and
if you could get it running with the TNT I reckon it'd be frame rates
a plenty with attractive graphics roughly on par with 3Dfx. (no
anti-aliasing)

Had it working here on an STB Velocity 128, but barely.
