Works VERY nice here, once you get through the menus.

System :
Dell Dimensions XPS R450
nVidia TNT 16 meg
CL VD2 12 meg
128 megs 100 Ram
Turtle Beach 320
Lansing ACS 495 Speakers
19" .26 monitor

All details on, maxed out every slider I could find.

It will " run " in 1600x1200, but starts out at <10 fps in the pits,  but
kicks up to the mid 20's while running alone.  but it's VERY detailed.

African Pits, the OGL is getting 24, while the VD2 is showing 36.  These are
from outside the car.  Once it is moving, they both hold pretty steady in
the 34> range, regardless of what's going on.

But I don't know that these are fair tests, due to the fact that the OGL
looks SO much more detailed.  It is like comparing one system running N2
with the Asphalt and Grass off with the other system having it turned on.
the colors look so much deeper on the OGL.  To me.

The VD2 was yanked out of my old P200,  and since the OGL version runs so
well,  it will probably get put back.  Gotta free up a PCI slot for that TV
card!!

It's ALOT better looking than a voodoo is.  The look of it is much for
'colorful' but it is alot slower.. still playable... but slower than the
voodoo.  Papyrus explains why as well.. due to Nvidia's non optimized
drivers for the mirrors in the game.

It is worth seeing.  If Nvidia works with Papyrus to get this patch out of
beta and into actual production.. it will be ALOT better than the glide
version.

you do need to read the readme file as it will explain that the User
Interface is horrible.  But it you can 'hunt and peck' your way to where the
green button should be, you will be able to race and see for yourself.

The user interface is only 'broken' with some drivers, and it should
work properly with the latest reference drivers from NVidia
(unfortunately I believe these will only allow the game to run at
640x480).

I have tried the .0131 and the .0137 drivers for the STB TNT nVidia card,
and both have the messed up screens.  I just set the game up in 3dfx mode,
switch to OGL mode, exit, then re-enter the game.  the green " Go " button
is in the lower right, so no problem!  Don't need no stinking menus!!

Oh,  the reference drivers have nice menus, but like you said,  only 640x480
is currently working.  Will keep the bad menus and nice game play and just
bide my time.

Just in case anyone wonders why I go through all the trouble when I could
just run it in 3dfx mode....  Well, if you had seen it, you wouldn't have to
ask.....

The interface works all right with my Viper550--only the pointer looks a
little odd and if you move it near an edge it wraps over to the other side.
Colors are much richer than with the Monster 2.  Got a black screen at
800x600 on the track, but other higher resolutions are OK. I've experienced
similar frame rate hits to those others report.  If they get the mirror
thingy fixed, the TNT looks like it's going to put it to the V2--but only
if.  I still wouldn't trade the appearance for the frames, and for now I'm
still running the V2.  BTW, that's an AGP V550 I'm running.  Don't know
whether there's any difference between that and the PCI.

Jerry,

I agree with everything you say there.  I am running the same two
cards and the game looks fantastic in replay mode and OpenGL.  I
cannot be sure, but it looks like the replays run faster in OpenGL
than Glide.  Is there any known way to get a frame counter in the
replays?

Oh, I am running the PCI V550 while the AGP slot sits empty because
that is what CompUSA sent me.  (I won that free V550 they were giving
away and they did not ask which bus I wanted).

This might be a stupid question, but any chance of it working with a Viper
330 AGP?
I scraped mine for the Stealth II S220, but am just wondering if the above
combo (with the OpenGL patch) might work.

Thanks,

I didn't have much luck using Diamond's drivers, but someone in the 'TNT
going to kick butt' thread has it running with NVidia's reference
drivers.

Well, there's only one way to find out, isn't there?  (But there's a post I
just saw from someone claiming he's running the patched GPL with a 330.)

I don't suppose you tried it with the 3dfx OpenGL drivers? Just a
thought. Hmmm... I've got the drivers here; should try it myself and
see.

Yes. I have this card installed. Patch installs and works like a

average everything on in single race play, 19 AI cars in practice, no
trafic visible on horizon. (K6-2 300)

It does, but Stealth II S220 still outperforms it in GPL by a mile. If
GPL is a priority stick with the Rendition. With anti-aliasing ON it
does 36 vs the Vipers 25fps average on my PC, and in 800x600.

Yep. Me. 4MB V330 AGP, nVidia ref drivers, DirectX 6.0 core in Win98.

19 AI, selected no visible traffic. Pretty impressive response from
Papyrus IMO. TNT owners will be uncontrollable! <envious smile>

The OGL patch doesn't work with 3DFX's beta2 ogl driver. I just tried it
twice, and the system went catatonic for a long time -- about a minute
-- but finally responded to ctrl+alt+del. GPL was listed as not
responding in the task list.

So what's so great about the OGL version?

Michael.

Along those lines, I wonder if it is possible to use any of the AMD
Quake 2 OpenGL stuff to get even higher framerates.  Sounds like a
good experiment for me, eh?
