The Mini-GL drivers for the Quake engines games will not work.  GPL's
OpenGL rasterizer needs a full ICD.

WHY??? Nvidia is a member of OpenGL commitee I believe, 3Dfx is not.  And if
you read the readme file written by Papyrus.. you would see that it states
that.. and I quote.. "Currently, one of the best OpenGL-capable chips is the
NVidia Riva TNT"... end quote!!

So.. I ask again?  WHY???   3Dfx has glide!! that's why it's so great.. it
runs GLIDE better than... well.. obviously better than anything out there..
but beyond GLIDE support, it's just another second class 3D card.

Sorry, as long as my V2 runs ALL the games, it's a first class 3D card.
Some
BRANDNEW cards may have some shiny new features, but I wanna play now...

Ok, you bought your TNT, and now can for the most part run GPL.  Why slam
3dfx?  News flash, it DOESN'T make your TNT run better to slam 3dfx.  If you
can't grasp the concept that 3dfx has had the leading graphics accelerators
for the last 2 years, and is only just now surpassed in some areas (not all,
several benchmarks, etc. still show a single V2 doing things better than a
TNT, SLI configs doing even better) then you're deluding yourself.  Glide
support is really important, a lot of games use it and nothing else.  It
does just fine in Direct 3D, even with the older DX5 drivers - and you'll
notice there are even a good many D3D games that only run right on 3dfx or
Rendition, I know many that have problems with the Riva 128/TNT.

First off, no need to run the Open GL GPL on Voodoo 2's anyway, it has GLIDE
support.  Don't justify your $200 spent on a TNT to me, I'm happy with my
Voodoo 2 and you be happy with your TNT.  Neither is second-class, they're
both good.  And I'm sure in a month or two something will be out that
outruns both of them, so you're deluding yourself further if you think you
have the end-all, be-all of graphics accelerators, there never will be one.
Play games on the one you have and enjoy it, don't try to convert everyone
else to use what you think is best.  They're video cards, not religion.

Why not convert??  The more people with TNT cards... the more games with TNT
support.  There is nothing wrong with a 3Dfx card.. I still use my Monster
3D for Unreal.. but I would rather use it with my TNT card.  And I'm not
going to until everyone else starts wanting to use it with their TNT card..
then eventually we'll ALL be praising the TNT card and bow to it.

AAAAHHHHHMMMM... pray to to nvidia.. AHMMMMMMMMM  may the TNT maintain life
and all its 3D wonder..  AAAAAHHHMMMMM.  let thy heart open and we will cast
out the 3Dfx demon..  BE GONE VOODOO SPIRIT!!! BE GONE SLI DEMON!!  BE GONE
GLIDE DEVIL!!!  BE GONE FROM THIS TNT SOUL!!!

And so the prophecy continues on.. and a man continues his path toward the
horizon of higher resolutions.  And on this journey he reaches his destiny
without ever letting his pace fall below 36 frames per second.   And he
looks up into the multi-textured sky.. and smiles at the richness of its
colors.. and while looking up, he spots a bird flying high above and
realizes, he thought it was a dark plane flying above before TNT had touched
his soul.

Yeah- from the arcade chase view. I suppose NVidia is going to fix their
drivers for one title......they never even fixed all the issues with the
Riva 128, evn after all the customer feedback.

Please tell me you're not basing TNT comparisons to a Voodoo 1 Monster
3D????  The visual quality difference between Voodoo 1 and 2 is huge.

And I don't think there is anything wrong with TNT cards.  Just if I'm gonna
get one, I'm gonna wait for the .25 micron ones, that should be faster, and
by then bugs should be worked out.  Plus, until I see something that really
performs that much better than on a V2 then I just don't need it.  If I were
buying a new card, maybe it'd be a consideration, but it definitely hasn't
impressed me enough to shell out $150-$200 to get some improvement.  It's
gonna take quite a while to get market penetration anything near what 3dfx
has, so universal game support is gonna be a long time coming, and as long
as the Voodoo 2 plays everything I like at 30+ fps, there just isn't reason
to get something else.

Any ideas why I am only getting 24> in the incar view with a :

PII 450
128 megs 100 ram
Cl Voodoo 2 ( 12 meg )

Both the TNT and Voodoo suffer the same frame hit when in car.

Outside view,  I get 34> everywhere.

What settings do I fool with for the card?

With everything on, mirrors to cars+track, detail bias a bit to the right of

rock solid ~36 after the start.  The outside view will usually stay 34-36
all the time, it does this a lot in other games too.  It seems the cards do
better drawing a lot of stuff moving, and to do any kind of static***pit
and then drawing the 3D world beyond it slows them down.  GPL also has to
draw the mirrors in-car and not in chase cam mode.  N2 was the same way, and
I've noticed it in a lot of flight sims.

Still though you should be getting at least 4-10 fps more than 24 fps with
that setup, at least on the Voodoo 2 (I know the TNT has the problem with

the start of a large-field race.  Can't think of anything offhand.

Maybe I was greedy,  clicked every item in the graphics option ( A & M ).
Everything on, everywhere, all cars, etc, etc...

I just got the new CL drivers, and my frame rate picked up another 6 FPS to

So much for that crisis!
