Can anyone help me about pitting in nascar racing, the manual i thing
does not do a good job of explaining it. I basically drive into the pits
and nothing happens. Do i have to go into the garage or what. The manual
does definitely not explain it well.

Hey, you're not alone!!  The manual doesn't do a very good job of
explaining the pit procedure.  It took me a while to figure it out
myself.  See if this helps:

First of all, just to simply make a pit stop, you should drive up beside
your pit crew (the only ones shown on pit road) and come to a complete
stop.  You should see a running clock in the upper right hand corner of
your screen, if you don't, back up or pull forward a little and hit the
brake again.  You should see the timer and hear the crew changing tires.
It takes a little practice to hit it right on the head, so don't get
discouraged if you have to back up/pull forward every time.  Second (well
actually this should be first, but...) watch for the change in road
texture or the edge of the pitwall.  You must be at 55mph or less when
you pass that point.  You cannot be over 55mph when you leave the pit
either, or you'll get black flagged.  Sometimes you can get away with
bumping 56, but not very often.  Since it is explained fairly well in the
manual, I won't go into the F1-F10 keys to change settings.  One thing I
will mention to you, and only because I have seen it asked here before,
you don't have to make changes on the fly.  You can hit "P" to pause the
game and still go in and select tires to change, spoiler adjustments,
etc. and then unpause to continue into the pit.  REMEMBER!!! If you don't
want damage repaired, hit "F9" and then the return key.  You should see
"Do Not Repair" in the pit summary.  Believe me, it sucks to have 25-30
laps left in a race going into the pits for 2 tires and you end up stuck
there for over a minute while the pit crew rips every piece of crumpled
sheet metal off.  By that time, you're at least a lap down.

The key is, when you stop you HAVE TO use your brakes.  If you don't, it
won't work at all.  Oh, and you must be in YOUR stall (if you are in the
lane and you can block out the guy with the pitboard with the frame of
your car you are definitely in your stall.

They leave a few explanations to be desired.  YOu should try using their
paintkit program.
