Can you only use windowed mode if the resolution is equal to or lower than
your desktop resolution?  Renders it (pun intended) kind of useless for
those capable of running at hi res (as I do with N4).  The frame rates I am
getting in NR2002 are about half what I get in N4--and that's with half as
many cars on the track.  Since I can't try OpenGL (what I use in N4),
thought I would try the window mode as some report that frame rates are
substantially higher.

Thanks,

Marc

Yes, windowed mode it only available at resolutions less than or equal
to your desktop resolution (otherwise it game's window couldn't be fully
displayed).

Why the game doesn't switch to the correct resolution, like all the other
program out there, regardless of the desktop resolution Eric ????

It does when you're running in full-screen mode.  I've never seen an app
that does what you're asking for when run in windowed mode, can you list
some examples?

You are right, Eric...it's only logical that you can't have a window larger
than your desktop--at least not one that is going to be useful!!

Can you tell us whether the final 2002 will have OpenGL and whether it is
true that the D3D version generally has better frame rates in windowed mode?
Also, are the dramatically lower frame rates most are experiencing just a
result of this being an early build?  The graphics don't look any better on
my system (1600 x 1200 16 bit) than N4, so I am hoping that I don't need
something faster than my P4 2.0GHz to run 2002 with a full field.
Basically, is it an early build or are there some other more sophisticated
calculations going on somewhere that account for the drop?

Thanks and Happy New Year to you and all at Papy.

I had the same question.....why are people with extremely fast systems
(1.5ghz and above) getting terrible frames per second?

You actually expect an answer to those questions Marc?  They might comment
on the d3d/opengl but if you think they will comment on items that might be
taken negatively, then I hope you are not holding your breath.  :)
Happy New Year.

More sophisticated calculations certainly doesn't equal negative to me.  I
was happy to buy GPL even though I knew I could only take advantage of it
fully on a future system.  If NR2002 has some sort of super advanced physics
and AI that require more computing power, more power to Papy.  I think it is
simple, really...are these the frame rates we can expect in the final (I
doubt it)?  There certainly doesn't SEEM to be enough changed/improved to
warrant the drop, but there may be lots we can't see...yet :)
