N2 / WIN95

All,

I have been trying to track down a problem with N2 and WIN95.

I can run about 6 to 8 laps and then  the screen pauses for about half a
second 4 times
in a row with about a quarter second in between pauses. This happens every
6 to 8 laps.
The interesting the sound is till working and the car is still moving as
far as N2 in concerned,
because after the pause the car is further down the track.

My system is a PPro 200 with reactor/sb32. I had run N2 this way for weeks
and
it was great. Recently I upgraded the bios on the reactor and the display
drivers and
installed TEN/KALI and KAHN. I have done my best to backout the changes but
the problem is still there. It is very consistant and reproducable.

I would not mind running in DOS except TEN will require WIN95 as does
KALI95.

Anyone seen this behavior?

Papy, do you have any recommendations?

Regards,
        ---Wayne

It's your TCP/IP addresses.

Either disable them or change from Obtained mode to specified mode and in
specified mode put 1.1.1.1 in there for an address. What is happening is that
Win '95 every 5 minutes or so will check TCP/IP connections if one isn't
found. You must have installed the TCP/IP protocol when you installed IPX for
Kali/Kahn at that time this problem started because TCP/IP has no connection
and keeps trying to find one.

N2 / WIN95

Wayne,

I have seen this problem on my own system, and I can tell you for a fact
it is not related in any way to NASCAR 2.  It seems to be a bug in WIN95.
I had this exact same problem playing Warcraft II and Descent, or any game
for that matter.  It was very irritating, and the most irritating thing is
I don't know how I fixed it, and my friend is now having the same problem.

I would suspect that any game you run from within Win95 would experience
the same symptoms, double check your icon properties as well.  Maybe we
can find someone who knows what the problem is here and post a solution,
but I do assure you that you are not alone.

My friend doesn't have the problem in DOS mode, so it is not a hardware
problem, but a Win95 thing, I wish I knew what cured my machine, it was
very irritating, and it seemed to pop out of nowhere.

Regards,

Todd

Do you have "Auto-insert notification" turned on under "device manager",
CD-ROM, settings?  If yes, the system will poll the CD-ROM drive every few
seconds.  This might be it...

Todd,

Did some fooling around and it appears to be the TCP/IP networking
settings.
Either unbind TCP/IP or put in a IP address. It appears when TCP/IP is set
to obtain address it goes through this pause business.

Papy may want to put this in the readme for WIN95 users.

Turned out to be the TCP/IP Networking settings.
