YIPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I finally won a race against the AI.

Only a novice race and at Monza - but still I won.

Battling with Hill and Clark and focusing on not making any of the usual
blunders.

Finally

It was by the way in the Ferrari with Roland Ehnstr?ms setup - brilliant
setup Roland - thanks

Congrats :-)

I think Roland's setups are really excellent. I've used them for a long
time now (excpet at Spa, and even there my setup is based on his), and
can't see many better setups that a non-alien would get much out of.

If his are the setups ending in the RE suffix, I wholly agree and would like
to add my thanks.  I've only had GPL for a few months, but I've found again
and again that the 'RE' and 'WW' (sorry...wish I knew the name or I'd give
credit here for these as well) setups do wonders for me.  It was like
getting into an entirely different car when I first found these setups and
tried them with the Lotus.

So thank you, RE and WW, whoever you are....

Dear Itazura, I get hit with Japanese text support downloads every one of your messages i go to
read, is this somethig you could correct if you're going to be posting in english?

Content-Type: text/plain;
 charset="iso-2022-jp"
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit

I think its your strange character set that messes things up.

your messages i go to

Hmm... I have a Japanese OS and that's why the charcter set shows up as
Japanese in the 'charset' heading, but I'm sending my newsgroup messages in
plain text format.  I just went through all of the option settings I could
find that seemed relevant in my software, but I'm not sure I can send
messages in any more basic a format than this.  I would think that any
'automatic download' of Japanese fonts on your end would be a function of
your newsreader software, though.  Sorry for the hassle... if I knew how to
fix it I would.  Maybe someone will have a suggestion... I'm using MS
Outlook Express (Japanese) version 6.

Just tracking this down a little, and believe it to be related to the
setting in Internet Explorer (Outlook Express and IE share technologies
between the apps) in Tools/Internet Options/Advanced tab in the Browsing
section of Settings.  When there is a check mark in the line "Enable Install
On Demand (Other)" I believe that's where the prompt is generated.  Try
taking the check mark out, reboot and then open one of the messages again.

True. I just installed it when it asked me to long time ago (makes
accidentally arriving on Asian websites a little more pleasing to the eye as
well). Doesn't seem to make a difference to posting on newsgroups, other
than my compose font changes when I reply to one of those messages.

I'll bump on the congrats ;)!
My only near win was an Int Long race at Monza, and I ran out of fuel
on the last lap!  Sputtered through Vialone and coasted to a stop in
Parabolica, argh ;)!

Where might I find Roland's setups?  And how do they compare to Alison
Hine's?  I don't have alot of time to develop setups, and prefer to
concentrate on just driving and having fun.  I really like Allison's
setups, especially her Ferrari setups - the car is setup similarly to
how a real 67 car would have been setup, and has a fantastic feel.  I
wouldn't want to switch to a go-kart setup, no matter how fast it is.
Just tried her Eagle setup for WG and *wham*, by the second lap I'd
bettered my PB and finally bested 1:10!  Yeah I'm slow, but I'm
consistent ;).  I may be negotiating a team change.

Cool, I'm trying that now.

Should also be helpful as the damn Koreans seem to have discovered
spam in the last few months - my email is constantly asking me to
d/l the Korean charset!

IMHO, you will find Roland's setups impossible to drive if you're still in
the 1:10 mark at the Glen. Maybe they just don't suit my driving style but I
tried them and found them WAY looser than I can handle.

Until you can get maybe 1:07 or so at the Glen, you should probably be
spending more time practicing and learning the lines than fiddling with
setups. Alison's setups can get you there just fine.

As far as how they drive goes... they're not for the complete novice -
you'll need to feel reasonably comfortable about pushing the car quite
hard (controlled slides around corners, etc) - but a reasonably
experienced driver should find them fairly straightforward to get to
grips with,as they give excellent feedback.

At a guess, I'd imagine you'd need to be running in 1:07 at the Glen,
sub-1:30 at Monza and 3:25 at Spa to want to use them ahead of Alison
Hine's setups. Depends on your driving style, though - some people can
go very fast indeed with Alison's setups.

Some people can also go very fast with the DEFAULT setups - even 'negative'...
