I've been playing with the beta...it's so far VERY rough...no real
installer, no AI at all the tracks, but they are working on it....I did some
a quick race at Suzuka and testing at Austrailia.
Aussie was an eye opener...I went out will half tanks, enough for a 20 lap
run...my best laps came with about 11 laps left in the tanks so if I took
care of the tires, there would probably be more, but the little MG 675 set
fastest lap in the testing session. Even the AI controlled A8's and a Dome
couldn't match him. I was using a Dome too...the Audi engine note is too
raw for my ***. :0
Anyhow...at Suzuka, the race was a mess. Most cars crashed out on lap
one. The One Audi to last 3 laps crashed at the last hairpin and 3 MG's
snuck by. The mod seems to handle the lower HP cars better than the big
LMP 900's . I don't know if it's a quirk of they physics or what, but the
MG's seemed able to keep their wings on and motor around. The Audi would
drive away, spin, drive away, spin, the MG's would catch up then the Audi
would drive away again...til the last turn when he over cooked it..
Also the Mg's seemed to be fine running nose to tail in their own little
small pack, but whenever they caught the Audi, they would spin or
over-correct exiting a turn and loose all momentum.
all in all, another Promising mod for F1 2001. It certainly needs more
work, but...if they can get it to run with ALMS or the FIA_GT mods, then we
could have a "SMALL" mixed field online. A field of 4 LMP 900's, 2 LMP
675's and two GTS(fia_gt) and 2 GT(alms) would probably max most online
connections.
I haven't seen how far they can extend the laps, I guess I should dig into
that, and this would probably mean somebody might have to mess with the tire
wear as well.
We'll see...there's a forum over at Racesim.central and a website at:
