GP3 Internet Features?

GP3 Internet Features?

Hi All,

I heard a ruomour that there will be no Internet feature on GP3, because
of slow lag and response times.
Is this true and will they release Internet features in GP4/5 if the
internet speeds up with new technologies, such as IP2 and ADSL?

Cheers , Leigh.

Of what every site is saying up to now this is true.  No internet play...
unless you go through a server like kali or heat that accepts ipx games, but
as usual this kinda play will not be supported (technicaly) by microprose.
I personaly think High speeds would do just fine as they work on the same
base as a lan.  But you never know.

The GP3 team aren't developing internet code for 2 reasons:

1.    Licencing problems...

2.    They do not believe that you can race over DUN (what most ppl have) to
a standard which is up to GP3's quality.

I'm sure GP4 and 5 will support internet..  they will "have" to...

According to their press statements that is.

Could well be true. Bernie seems to be very specific about what rights
a deal does and doesn't entail. Maybe he has his own secret plans !!!

I know they might site this as an official reason but I find it hard
to believe. Regardless of how inocent and nieve they might wish to
appear to be they would surely be aware of the current state of the
art.

Are you suggesting that a producer of major computer games in March of
2000 is somehow unaware of what their competition are achieving in the
area of internet play ? I think you are too willing to believe what
sounds like the borad-room decided responce to all such questions.

What they probably don't believe is that they have worked out how to
reach the hights of their competition in this area and don't want to
shame themselfs by a second rate attempt. Better to just say that it
can't be don't and trust that most people will nievely believe you. Of
course they are never going to admit that they've been trying to meet
the standard ( which they know and see is achieveable ) but so far
have failed.

This is what many have said about GP3. You can't be sure, and they
don't have to - obviously.

As I posted previously...

I think that (1) leads to (2) - they can't use internet racing
(licensing issues) so therefore they justify the lack of it by their
codswallop about DUN's not being up to it. They obviously can't go
bagging the FIA and Bernie about the licensing issues, otherwise
they'd lose their license.

My gut instinct tells me that Bernie has another motives behind his
prohibition of internet multiplay with the F1 license - pay per use
multiplay. Bernie's reasons always come down to a dollar reasoning,
and I think he will develop his own internet multiplaying setup that
will be a pay per use deal just to add a few megabucks to the coffers.

Just my ESP premonitions coming forth...

If that's the case, then tell me why F1 2000  _will_ have TCP/IP multiplayer
racing.  Licensing problems is not anymore a factor.  Only the arrogance
from Geoff and Microprose on the Internet.

OK guys...

The reason is simple...

NEGOTIATIONS...

Microprose couldn't negotiate to get Internet Play in... and EA did...

That simple.

Maybe Microprose should look at the EA negotiators for possible employment
opportunities.

Shumi

It'd be interesting to see the cost disparity between the two
licensing agreements then - Maybe Bernie's asking price was too high
for Microprose, but EA could afford it. "How many !#$&% million $ for
TCP/IP??" to quote Microprose?

Not sure of the intricate details regarding that... but I know that it all
boiled down to negotiations...

I suspect EA paid a pretty penny though... they nabbed the 2000 season as
well as online play.... you know Bernie was wringing his hands as dollar
signs extruded from his eyes profusely...

Cheers,

Shumi
