GP3 internet play...

No, it's not another post asking if GP3 can be played on the net, but
instead some interesting info from the German Microprose site
 http://www.racesimcentral.net/) which
clearly states GP3 includes "internet play" and "TCP/IP" support.
Either the site is wrong, or we will be playing GP3 online afterall.
Any views?

I'm thinking just like GP1(world circuit)  which only had head to head,
but allowed the ai drivers to compete over a season.
ICR2 was a real breathrough in multiplayer.  with Gp1, we got framerates
on our 14.4 modems of about 5.  We drove a full season online with
excrutiaingly slow framerates.  When the multi patch for ICR2 was finally
shipped,(quite some time after the game was released)  We couldn't BELIEVE
the fluid framerates while online.

Dave,

Are you sure you aren't thinking of ICR1?  It had modem-play listed
on the box but not implemented until a patch many months later.  ICR2
had it out of the box.  Also, that would coincide with the release of
GP1 (late '93ish).  Of course, that's based on memories of a ICR guy
who didn't use modem play.  (silly me...)  :)

nothing to be frightened of, and no limit, any fool could get into
a motor car and racing would not exist as a sport." -- Jim Clark

Perhaps this is great news, but perhaps they just mean 'modem-to-modem
multiplayer'? Though, as it supports TCP/IP, it should be possible to
race via the internet, it's just the question how well GP3 can deal
with (compared to LAN environments) high pings and packet loss...

Some correction:
ICR2 had modem to modem connection out of the box,
which was very sweet (well, at that time :)
I know, as I used it a lot. GP2's modem to modem connection
was downright abysmal...
