Yes it had SIX wheels. Goodyear made special 10 inchers (I believe
this is correct) for the four fronts, and it used the standard sized
tires, which were HUGE in those days, for the rears.
The car had some teething problems, as can be expected using a
special control arm to steer the "other" tires on the other front axle
from the one directly connected to the steering column. It was an
absolute jet in a straight line as it had no front tires out in the
airstream to give wind resiistance, so the top speed was one of the
fastest of that era, but the handling left quite a bit to be desired,
as I understand. It also had to do with the fact that with the extra
front tire surface area, the drivers had a difficult time getting THE
REAR tires to behave as they wanted -- different eh?
The main sponsor was ELF petroleum of France, and one of the
drivers was Jody Scheckter ----- I can't remember who his teammate
was.
Used a Cosworth GP engine ------ a continuation of the one that
started life in the 1967 Lotus.
I can't think of anything else right now ----- hope this helps you
on your question.
