1. Anyone have experience with using dedicated game cards instead of the
gameport on most soundcards?

2. Are there any benchmarks that show frame rates increase when using a
gamecard?

3. Is the $53 PDPI L4 Gameport the only dedicated game card worth
considering?

Here's a fairly in-depth review of the PDPI L4 digital game port:

We didn't do any empirical before/after benchmark testing (hey, we're
race nuts first, computer geeks second <G>), but there is a noticeable
improvement with the PDPI.  It's definitely worth the cost -- you can't
get this kind of stability with most sound card gameport interfaces.

I could not recommend the PDPI more highly.  While I don't have any
benchmark numbers to share with you, I did notice, upon installation, that
my driving inputs are MUCH smoother and more precise, and my online
connections were MUCH more stable, and frame rates were much smoother.  It
seems to work very well.

Question, Will any wheel work with the PDPI or do I have to have a
digital wheel?

I think any wheel will work.  I've used several types of Thrustmasters, and
they've all worked--and they aren't digital.

Digital wheels and joysticks will NOT work with the PDPI card -- you
must use a standard, analog wheel.  The Mad Catz Andretti Racing Wheel,
the Microsoft Sidewinder FF wheel, and the Saitek R4 Force Wheel will
NOT work with the PDPI card.

Also, if you have an ACT Labs RS wheel, you need a special PDPI/RS
adapter cartridge, which will cost you another $40 or so, I think.
