DX7a - Question for people who had problems with DX7

Has anyone who experienced abnormaly low-framerates in games with DX7
tried DX7a yet?

DX7 butchered framerates on my Voodoo2 12MB system, and it was such a
pain to uninstall, I don't want to try it again unless I know this
problem has been fixed.

I canonly tell you that DX7a works great for me.  I had major controller
problems with DX7, and also experienced problems using my 12 meg voodoo 2.
Using 7a, everything works great for me now.

I got extremely low framerates with Dirt Track Racing and Force
Feedback enabled, this is fixed now. Other games worked fine with DX7.

Joe,

If you had problems with previous versions of DX, you weren't doing
something right.

Not so. The problems were widely reported. Besides why would MS fix
something that wasn't broke?

An upgrade doesn't necessarily mean something was "broke."  7a just improves
force feedback support.  If you get new drivers for your video card, does
that mean that the card didn't work right before?  It just works better.

You must work for a games customer support department. You've
obviously read the first rule in their manual:

1. ALWAYS blame the user.

P.S. - I see you haven't responded to the many substantive objections
to your assertions in the previous DX7a thread (on this group). Are
you some kind of troll, you just go around making unsupportable claims
and then disappear when challenged?

What objections?  I see two responses here; yours and Andrew's.  I'm just
saying that DirectX poses no threat to anyone's system if configured
properly.  The hesitation to downlaod it  just seems a little silly to me.
You wouldn't have a problem downloading a soundcard or video card driver.
DX and all the drivers you download are small but steady improvements for
your products.

Yeah! And in the case of ppl using N3 & MS Presion Pro Wheel (non-FF), it
may actually just WORK!

My system worked fine with all versions of DX before 7, but 7 caused a lot
of slowdown in GPL, 7a has now fixed this. This tells me that MS stuffed up
somewhere along the line as many people also had similar and worse probs in
previously fine systems.

Thats what I'd figured, but maybe its direct X that doesn't know how to
"correctly configure your system" and I'm getting the blame ;)

This is due to the fact that it is a lot easier to go back to older
sound/video card drivers than it is to get rid of a bad DX version. When you
get screwed by one these Direct X bugs, I think you might be a little more
open minded.
