F1RS: Full Race problem after pit stop: terrible lap!

by Jean-Marc Serr » Sat, 06 Jun 1998 04:00:00

Hello

After 6 months of practice at F1RS (and the great set-ups of Guy Cote) I
can get pole at the "pro" level
and win short races. So I've started full length races at Monaco and now
at Montreal (I follow the real
F1 season as probably many people do!).

But I have a huge problem every time I pit and get back on the track. I
know my car has a heavy fuel load
at this point and that the tyre a cold.....but the car is absolutely
undriveable. In particular when I break, I always
loose the backend of the car (e.g., oversteer). Now I know I have to
adjust my driving, but it is like I try to break
much earlier than usual and even then I still loose the damn car!  Is
there some trick to surviving the first 2 laps
after a pit stop? I ended up being 15 seconds slower in that lap and
still lost the car anyway!

P.S. Just to show you how bad it is, I was racing under the rain in
Montreal, I was 5th, after my first pit stop I spunned out 3 times in
the subsequent lap! I ended up 22th and just abandoned the race in
disgust!

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give.

F1RS: Full Race problem after pit stop: terrible lap!

Hello Jean-Marc. When braking on cold tires it is a good idea to brake in a straight line only. Don't turn until you are off the brakes.

Also. Scrubbing the tires in practice sessions has great effect in F1RS. I don't mind my tires being a little cold out of the pits. I'd rather have the extra mileage. So I run C's for one lap in practice. I run B's for six laps. Don't be afraid to put some heat into them.

Also. You must make sure that the game does not have a set of fresh tires to choose from when you are in the pits. The game always uses the freshest tires available. So if you are doing a 1 stop race on B tires, you must drive two (or  3 or 4 or 5) sets of B's for 6 laps each, then drive all other available C sets at least one lap each. That way the game has only two ( or 3 etc.) sets of B's to choose from and both of them have 6 laps on them.

"A lot of people think racing is about going fast. But it's not. It's about going just slow enough to stay on the track."
