N2 Pit Stop Problems

by John Ro » Tue, 29 Apr 1997 04:00:00

Hello!

I have been racing on N2 for a while now, but not at full legnth until the
patch gave me a save game feature.  I can race with the others on the track,
but I get my ***kicked in the pits.  I always seem to drop about 10
positions when pitting.  It seems my pit crew always takes about 5 sec. to
start working on the car.  Am I doing something wrong?  I have been trying to
stop where the lower right part of the board with my car number is visable
through the windsheild.  Any suggestions?  Thanks for any help!

John,

Make sure you keep the brakes applied until you hear the impact wrenches as
the tire changers start working on the right sides. Also, if you hit your
pit stall a little off, the pit stops take a little longer.

Here's a suggestion until you can hit your pit stall perfectly: After
you've stopped, hit the F10 key to switch to arcade view and note where the
car stopped. Switch back to in-car, exit the pits and try it again. Keep
doing this until you can hit your stall consistently.

I actually brake early and gently going in and roll the car the last few
feet. You may lose a few tenths, but it's much better than having to back
up if you overshoot your pit stall. It's really crucial in N2 using the
in-car view, since you don't have that nice little timer to tell you the
pit stop is in progress.

First, I assume you have absolutely no sheet-metal damage.  Do you also
lose ground when pitting under yellow?  There usually is a small delay
before you hear the guys starting to work on your car.  I would assume
that you are really losing your time on the approach to the pits
(slowing down too much in the last turn and as you go down the pit
entrance approach).  Also, you might want to check and make sure you are
not too close to the wall when you pull into your stall.  I do think
that the sim does penalize somewhat for not be squarely in the stall.

Pitting under green is a fine art.  You need to practice this alot.  The
goal is to get to your pit stall as fast as you can without violating
the pit speed limit.  I think this is inforced at the big Orange
Tootsie-Roll Pop at pit entrance, or the beginning of the outside pit
wall.  I know that when I have done it exactly right, I have been able
to get out ahead of the the guy who just pitted ahead of me.  Or at
least I have been able to be right on his tail as we come out.  But most
of the time I lose ground, because I slowed down too much in the last
turn or entering the pit (I definately do not want to get
black-flagged).  Try following someone into the pit to get an idea on
the speed you should be going.  Also use the ALT-B (auto-brake) as you
enter the last turn before entering the pits.  This is not a 100%
failsafe "cheat".  If you are going too fast it will not be able to slow
you down to the pit speed limit as you cross the pit entrance.  Though
it will help you judge where this line is.  All the while you are doing
this watch your tach and gearing.  Now go out and practice this without
the ALT-B.  Practice, Practice, Practice.  Besides your pit crew needs
the practice too. ;-)
