ICR2 Rendition problem

by John Plunket » Sun, 02 Nov 1997 04:00:00

When I Replaced my pentium 60 with a Cyrix PR166, ICR2 would no longer
display properly running Indyfast.bat, The program seems to be running
but nothing displays except for a band of colored pixels across the top
of the screen. Indysafe.bat would run OK but the frame rate was much
slower than the pentium 60 could run indyfast. N2 runs fine in DMA mode.
I first called Intergraph and they told me the problem was due to
Papyrus, so I called Papyrus and they simply told me that the problem
was with the Cyrix Chip, so I accepted that. Now to solve the problem I
bought an Intel 166 MMX CPU only to find the problem still exists. I
think now that Intergraph and Papyrus were just blowing me off by
placing the blame elsewhere. This current CPU can now run indysafe at a
more acceptable frame rate, but still no faster than I got with the
Pentium 60. Has anyone else experienced a problem like this? Since ICR2
is the most important thing about this computer Id really like it to
work.

To be honest, there was an issue with the Cyrix chip and the rendition
mode.  But there is a patch for this at most Rendition support sites.
But the real problem you are experiencing is that for some unknown
reason indyfast cannot activate your motherboard's chipsest DMA mode.
There is a simple fix for this get a copy of the diagnostic program
DMADIAG and run this before you try to run indyfast.  This should fix
the problem for you.

Try running it in indysafe mode, I have the same puter you do and the game
will only work in indysafe
