Buying FF now, indeed! Is MSFF ok?

This seems to be the most available wheel aound here where I live. Does
it come with pedals/split axis, or will I need to modify?

Thx,
Matt

Yes they are split, but you need to make your own profile for GPL to do
this.

I had three TM wheels, and the MS wheel is a work of art in comparison,
smooth, precise and a lot more stable. Damn, that sounds like a marketing
snippet, doesn't it? Well, I can't imagine, how much better a wheel costing
three or six times more could really be worth it. OTOH, there are guys buying
analog record players for $3000... ;^)

Switching to split axis is done by clicking on a toggle button in a profile.
BTW, I'd love to have a command line interface for that. Anybody listening?
That's one of the BIG drawbacks, besides stability ;^), Win9x has. The almost
exclusive limitation to GUI interfaces...

I also have a sidewinder FF wheel and love it.  The design is
excellent - it's compact and it has a superb locking mechanism making it
easy to attach and remove, and completely stable once attached.  The
pedals feel great but their base is a bit light and can get away from
your feet when doing a lot of braking/accelerating.

The FF effects are decent depending on the game.  Some seem totally
unrealistic whilst other games are definitely enhanced by FF.  I would
say this is common to all FF wheels.

Many have criticised the wheel for its 'notchy' feel but I don't
have a real problem with it.  Yes,  you can feel a slight sensation of
going from gear notch to gear notch inside the wheel as you turn it but
it is very slight,  and when you are immersed in the game it simply
doesn't matter at all.

Ergonomics are great .. the wheel has six buttons on the front which
can be programmed for anything you want and two buttons on the back
under your fingers which come in handy for gear changes.  The areas
where your hands are have some nice ***ised padding which makes for a
good grip and doesn't seem to get too sweaty.  It certainly feels good
to hold and well proportioned.

As for its control qualities - well I haven't used other wheels
extensively so all I can say is that compared to a joystick,  it takes
driving games to a whole new dimension.  With a good game you can really
believe you are driving a car as control feels so natural.

Right now the price on it seems to be very good - I imagine this is
an indication that it might be replaced by a new model,  probably one
which has USB connection.  Lack of USB is the only point I don't like
about the wheel,  but since all my other joysticks are USB there is no
need to me to continually swap connections on the joystick port.

All in all,  a great all-round performer which whilst probably not
the best wheel,  has the best feature set ..In My Opinion of course ;-)

Cheers,

    Gavan
