GP2 - Tyre wear over race distance

Hi there,

To those of you who have done long race distances, what level of tyre deterioration
occurs before you pit? I've noticed that even after 10-15 laps, there is some loosening
of grip, but how do you really tell if they're gone? It would help if you could provide
tyre wear measurements that I should expect by the 1st stop. (Is wear indicator in the
red zone acceptable still?)

Another thing. I use a keyboard for accln/ brake & joy for steering, so I do lock up
quite a bit (gets manageable with practice...). Question : is tyre wear compromised by
locking up (probably is, but is it serious?).

TIA,

Stanley Chan

It`s hard to tell, but during a full race I feel the car handles a bit
better after a pitstop than it did before one.  I use a joystick and
still lock the wheels quite often(no aids).

The only way I know how to find out projected tire wear is to run your
planned stint as a "Practice".  Pull into the pits and go to the car
setup and Examine the tire wear in the Advance Level 1.
