GP2 tyre wear

GP2 tyre wear

I have been trying GP2 with various different setups, but it seems to me
that the tyre wear and/or fuel weight is not very realistic.

In real life GPs, and in GP1, it seems to follow a pattern of ever decreasing
laptimes during a race, because of cars getting lighter and lighter as fuel
is consumed.

In GP2 the fastest laptime of the race usually gets set within the first
few laps. Thereafter, even though you have less fuel in the car, the tyres
are worn out before you can take advantage of this.

This happens even with the computer cars, which makes me think it something
wrong in the simulation.

Has anyone had a different experience? If so, with what kind of setup?

Hey nobody ever accused GP2 of being realistic :)

That used to be the case when cars had to start the race with a full fuel
load, but not any more.

The difference in times between a "full" (i.e. from as little as 50 miles
to a max of 100 miles of fuel) tank and an empty one is normally worth no
more than 1/2 second per lap.

On the other hand, a fresh set of tyres is usually worth more like a
second a lap.

Consequently these days, the best lap times are usually set within a few
laps of either the start of a race or a pit stop.

Cheers,
Richard
