Best PC Racing Simulators

Hi,

From my understanding the following is a list of the "best" racing
simulators for their category. By "best" I mean most realistic and
lifelike. Of course, there will be differing points of view as to
which ones are the best which is why I'm putting this list out there.
rFactor can probably fit into most of the categories but I've never
actually used it myself.

Nascar
1. Nascar Racing Season 2003

Modern Formula 1
1. F1 Challenge '99-02'

Vintage Formula 1
1. Grand Prix Legends

Australian V8 Supercars
1. GTR2 (V8 mod)

GT
1. GTR2

Classic GT
1. GT Legends

Please alter the list and add other categories if you feel obliged.

Regards,
Mike.

As you mentioned, rFactor goes into a lot of places. I'd put the BMW
Sauber F1 addon at the top of the heap for F1. Yes, it's only 1 car,
but it's still better than F1C as a whole imo. I'd also suggest that
Richard Burns Rally will get the nod in the Best Rally sim.

You consider 1979 vintage? If so, GP79 rFactor mod is better than GPL, IMO.

I think ARCA Sim Racing beats N2003 in most every category.

I'd have to agree.  But then I've never driven a stock car-- ARCA is just
newer and from what I've heard, from those who undoubtedly know more than I
do about these things, ARCA gets the nod.

A little OT, I do think ARCA needs to add some tracks.  All this stuff like
"we're just about finished with this or that track", said three weeks ago,
is getting a bit stale.  Also it seems to me that the developers-- or at
least some of them-- have very little patience when someone asks about the
tracks and the patch.

ARCA is fun, though, I'll have to admit.

Unfortunately I will never get the chance to find out if it is better or
not because they were too myopic to make it available as a digital
download purchase.

Hmm, I'd say EA F1 2002 was pretty good at F1.

And I'd add either Colin MCrae Rally 4 (or DiRT) as the best rally sims.

And of course not forgetting GTA3 as the best car-jacking sim...

8-)

Yes, but I don't do cross border shopping because it is too much of a
hassle and costly.

It wasn't too much of a hassle to me.  It took the game four business days
to reach its destination.

I know others had some problems getting the game.  And one thing that
strikes me as a bit odd is that (OT) the developers of ARCA are very touchy.
They seem to have an excuse for everything, and have had a few tracks
"almost finished" now for a couple o' weeks.  If you post something on the
negative side at the forums, your thread will get closed almost immediately.

I can understand where the developers are coming from.  No response at all
or just a response like we are listening and things will get fixed when we
are sure we haven't created new problems is better than pretending there
aren't many problems as it is.

In the Age of Immediate Want many users have very little patience, including
the developers, who have no patience with posters who have no patience.
