And of course, ignores the fact that other racers have vastly superior
frame rates AND graphics, on much less capable systems. Sorry but it's
the game engine folks, not the hardware.

I should sure hope you'd get 30 fps with that system. I have not downloaded
the demo yet, and not sure I will. Seems to me there are an awful lot of
folks that have trouble getting decent framerates, and yes, perhaps their
not configuring all their individual settings right, setting v/m on the
hard drive, etc etc. However, imho, they should be able to run it right out
of the box if their system meets the requirements.

>What framerate is acceptable to the eye??

t caries greatly by individual. I can't stand anything under 20, and
that's just barely acceptable. 30+ is "comfortable", though I'd prefer
faster. Most 3D 3dfx games provide around 25-30fps in hi-res with all
features on.

Julian, I dont understand what all the fuss is about with framerates, I
have a fairly fast machine (209MMX) with all the needed goodies and I'm
happy with what I get. In GP2 I have it set to 18 SVGA full detail and
sky and CPR runs around 20 to 25 and I'm happy with it :).

Framerate is subjective to the users opinion I think so I guess I'm
lucky that I dont have to insist on 30 fps :).

"with all features on" is hardly a scientific measure <g>

Another thing to consider is that games like Quake, Motoracer etc aren't
actually doing much other than calculating the graphics. CPR has _lots_
of setup variables. If we assume that all of these contribute to the
driving model then it is almost a wonder that it has any time left at all
to push out some graphics <g> A better comparison may be with FS98 - and
CPR give much better frame rates than that!

# of setup variables is obviously a very crude way of judging the
underlying game engine, but it does indicate that CPR is doing a lot more
processing in this area than any of the other racing sims.

CPR's graphics could certainly be improved (a direct 3dfx port would
obviously be welcome to a lot of us <g>), but it either isn't as awful as
some make out or is very dependent on hardware configuration (a
possibility??). I get 29-30fps with an o'clocked P166MMX & 3dfx with
clipping set to min & no sky. This graphic level is enough to provide
sufficient suspension of disbelief for me - some of the actual physics
may not be quite so believable though :(

Cheers,
Richard
