MS CPR - No Yellows????!!

by Jeff Anderso » Thu, 13 Nov 1997 04:00:00

What?? I just read the "Digital Sports Page" review of MS Cart Precision
racing
(http://www.racesimcentral.net/) and
it said there are NO yellow flags in the game at all????  What is this?

The framerate I can live with.
The AI problem is not the END of the world.
The Autopilot in the pits is... (rrrrg) ...
But no Yellow flags??

Is this a SIM or a nintendo game???

I find it hard to believe that NEGATIVE progress seems to have been made
on established racing sim 'traditions' :
No leader board during practice -- how fast is everyone else going?
No tire temp readouts.
I have to BE a famous name driver rather than racing against them. (I
DONT want to BE Alex Zanardi!)
Is there a spotter (ALA Nascar II)?

I am starting to get bummed out about this game and I can't tell you how
much I was looking foreward to it.  I play IndyCar II REGULARLY even
though I have owned it for (what has it been...?) three years?  Guess
I'll keep on playing it...

PLEASE tell me I am wrong on at least some of my points above...

SNIP

It is a SIM.

There is a placement board

You can change the name of the driver to be you. Check out The APEX at
http://www.quiknet.com/~joja/ in the editing section to find out how.

Indy Car drivers don't usually have spotters. Thats what your mirrors are
for.

I can't say your wrong since you feel the way you feel. T.R.I. is currently
working on the patch for CART and hopefully it will adrress some if not all
of these concerns. These guys are very serious about this game and want to
make it the best.

So what's their in-helmet radio for?  :)

Never having had the pleasure of having a scanner at a CART race,
I don't know exactly what kind of stuff goes back and forth on the
radio, but I'm sure the crews *must* relay track incidents to the
drivers.

I had a scanner at the 97 Homestead race. The radio is primarily used so the
driver and the crews can talk about the condition of the car, changes to be
made on the next pit stop, when to pit, fuel/boost settings to use, and
other race strategy. For loooong periods, nothing is being said -- the
driver needs to maintain concentration. Yes, they relay information on
incidents when possible (sometimes it takes a while for the crew to learn
about the incidents), but that is a far cry from a Nascar-type spotter which
is constantly watching the immediate traffic around the car.
