3000.

When I ran GPL for the first time ... Well - It wasnt like I excpected

I got about 7fps in 640x480 - everything turned on. Can this be right ?? I
mean, I get more fps with my old p-pro200 mhz w/voodoo2 card?

And I get about 25 fps ( in the pits ) with my p2-333mhz ? hmms.. Hope
someone can tell me what is wrond - if not Ill return this damn amd thing ;P

Might seem like a stupid question but do you have 3dfx selected
in the graphics options?

Hehe - Yes i definetly ( how do you spell it ? :)   ) have 3dfx turned on.
But surely - it cant be right to get such a low framerate ? or .. ? The
tests I looked at before byuing the computer indicated that amd got beteer
fps than intel...

I think that the way the game was designed means you need an Intel processor
for best results (preferably a PII). GPL doesn't take advantage of the 3D
instructions of the AMD CPUs, so any framerate test will be misleading for a
relatively old sim like this.

Your Voodoo3 wouldn't happen to be AGP would it?
I just recently made myself a new Athlon 700 and MS-6167 motherboard
system
with a Geforce DDR, 256mb ram, etc. etc. and initially anything that
used 3D
would run utterly painfully slowly. even Nascar 3 only ran at 15fps!
But after screwing around with assorted drivers for a couple of days I
finally found and installed AMD's latest AGP drivers and whooosh,
everything
just got up and flew. ie: GPL in testing mode full detail is a very
reliable 36fps at 1600x1200. So I think the problem was that without the
AGP drivers installed the computer was unable to use AGP properly.

You can get the latest 4.61 AMD agp driver at
http://www.amd.com/products/cpg/bin/miniport_461.exe

Hopefully that will help.

Grant.

By the way Remco, I think the Athlon has MMX support built in.

Frupp :Just to be sure you're using the 3D portion of your Voodoo  check for
a file in your GP folder called "app. ini" There should be a line in it that
reads like the following:

[ Graphics ]
lastRasterizerDLL = rast3dfx.dll         ; Last rasterizer DLL selected

I know that GPL works fine using AMD processors since I used to run it on a
K6-2 AMd allright

Yes, I found that line and its exactly like you wrote before - but still I
only get 7fps with 9 AI's at Watkins Glen ( in the pits )

Hello

My voodoo3 card IS agp. And everything is very slooow. But unfortunatley it
didnt become any faster after I innstalled the miniport driver thing you
mentioned :( I get 14fps when alone at the glen...

Is your detail slider all the way to the right? That may cause the lousy
framerate. It's no use having it all the way to the right, either. You do
not see any difference, except for a severe framrate drop. Try to put it in
the middle.

How many sounds do you have on? Try to reduce to 4 simultanious sounds.

Everything is set to default... like... the detail slider is in the middle -
The sound is set to 4 ( i think ).

It sure sounds like the V3 driver installation didn't "take" and GPL is running
in software (slideshow) mode.
(My k6-3 + Voodoo3 gets the full 36fps at 1024x768 at all times during practice
with all the eye candy on.  Your K7 should slam the framerate counter at a solid
36 FPS.)
Do other games work properly in Glide?  If so, try re-installing GPL.

GPL doesn't use the MMX instructions, it should run fine on an Athlon
700. As a matter of fact, someone said that he got 36 fps all the time
with V3 1024x768 19 AI cars and all detail on on an Athlon 550. So a
700 should do at least that.

To Frupp:
Do you use GPL 1.2? And also try the latest 3dFX drivers...
