ICR: Accidents, setups, and lap times...

by Steve Ow » Tue, 26 Apr 1994 17:24:07

I've been messing with the new 1.04 version of ICR... haven't tried
the modem stuff yet.

A couple of questions....

For the first time, it seems that other cars may get into accidents that I
didn't cause (Papyrus, is this new in 1.04???).  I did a full race at New
Hampshire the other day, I'm racing down the back stretch with no one around
me, then all of a sudden, the yellow comes out.  HUH?  For once, I didn't
cause the accident.  So I looked at the replay to find Emmerson Fittipaldi
(sp?) completely loosing it and collecting the wall going into turn one.  YES!
This is the sort of realism that really makes the game (if in fact it's
something that wasn't just a "bug" or a fluke...).

Also, would it be cool if we posted some setup files here?  I can't seem to
break 238 at Michigan and I'd love to see how others are reaching 240.  Also,
I still can't figure out why I can only get going about 165 before exiting the
pits and some friends of mine can get going 175 (same setups).  Weird.

Oh, and I have to hand it to Papyrus for building in real personalities into
the other drivers.  Al Unser Jr. has cut me off, bumped me, came down into me,
etc, more times than I can count.... just like the real Little Al.  8^)

Later...
Steve

ICR: Accidents, setups, and lap times...

Most people are breaking 240 at michigan with the Buick engine. You gear ratio
has to be around 3.1 though. Or... They raise the MAX engine output to 999.
I've gotten a 238.984 with a Lola/XB, without any of the above foolishness. A friend
has gotten a 239.998 with the Lola/XB. The setup was based on the FAST setup
with a lower wings. Also, I changed the tire compounds to keep the tire
temps 250-300. I think I used MEDIUM on the RF & maybe RR. Soft everywhere
else. Check the tire temps though. Anyway, the secret to driving Michigan fast
is turn 3. Take turn 3 without loosing much speed, & 238's will be yours.

I have problems with Mario!

Another point about speeds in ICR is that, if you haven't got a joystick, you seem
to be at a ~7mph speed disadvantage, presumably because, with a keyboard,
you're either full lock or no lock at all, so sensitive steering is impossible.
This is my experience anyway- having played F1GP for years with the keyboard,
I now have to learn to adapt to joystick with ICR- tricky!

Well, the setup alone isn't worth that much. It has to be related
to your driving style, your experience and probably to your
configuration (Keyboard/joystick for sure, system speed (?), ICR version(?)...).
                                                             ^^^^^^^^^^^
                                                             Somebody reported
faster laps are possible with v1.04. Can anyone confirm this?
Or was it the increase of experience (fooling this guy...)?

Some may argue, setups are spoilers, so at least a spoiler warning
should be there, don't forget it when posting setups.

That's why I do NOT post my setups here. BUT:
I like to discuss setups via email. Everybody is welcome!
My Michigan setup is not a secret. Just ask for it.

Happy racing

Herbert (241.477 at Michigan, preseason testing, no cheats)

Don't forget the anti-roll bars! The correct setting is worth

                 1-2 mph at Michigan !!!

Test different environment temperatures, the influence on tire
temperature is not neglectable. Worth another mph!
