After trying to get up to speed on ICR's version of the Detroit course
I must say that I sympathise with the IndyCar drivers for having to
make their way around that course!
I'm no ace on the road courses (although they're my favorite) but
usually I can get up enough speed to qualify in the last third of the
field. On the Detroit course I was hopeless! By best time was
something like 1:26! Trying to get more speed left me bouncing off the
walls like a pinball. After watching Sunday's race I went back and
immediately took 2 seconds off by best clean lap but I'm still not up
to speed.
Any setup advice for Detroit? I was starting with the "fast"
settings, taking out a little rear wing and fiddling with the brakes
and roll bars to try to get a little loose. I could get plenty of
power oversteer but I couldn't seem to get enough grip on the front
end braking into the turns.
Also, is there a standard temperature for comparing times? For a
while my weather was set to 70 degrees by default but I could never
get all the tires up to temperature no matter how I tuned. Bumping the
temperature up to 78 seemed to do the trick.
