F1GP: Setups To Achieve Beleiveable Lap Times

by Wayne Eastaug » Thu, 07 Mar 1996 04:00:00

Hi,

For quite a while I have been experimenting with F1GP to try to get the
AI cars and myself to lap at times comparable to the lap times achieved
in real life. To this end I currently have the game setup as follows:

AI horsepower between ~560bhp (for Williams / Benetton) down to ~499bhp
(for Forti & Taki Inoue)

AI grip at 25

Driver skills between 1 (Williams) and 160 (Forti)

Human player horsepower at 545bhp

This seems to work reasonably well because it keeps the pole position
time and the last man on the grid within about 8 seconds of each other
plus the similar horsepower means that the top cars can't just power
straight past the smaller teams on the straights (in the original setup
there seemed to be a discrepancy of about 50 kph on the straights).

Unfortunately it's still very easy to out-brake the AI cars from way
back...

This gives a reasonable but crude reflection of what should be going on
in a real race and makes sure it's HARD to win most races.
Unfortunately, these values are good on some tracks but absolutely ***
on others. Whereas you might just pip the Williams to pole at
Hockenheim, you get completely blasted at Hungary. This suggests that I
need to increase the Ai horsepower and decrease their grip. Oh well...

Anyone got any suggestions or car sets they want to share?

Plus, has anyone found out a way of patching the AI behavior to make
them better drivers than a dead duck in a banana skin?

Cheers,

Wayne.
