GP2 & Matrox Mystique220

by thomp.. » Wed, 22 Jul 1998 04:00:00

I've just installed a Matrox Mystique 220 graphics card in my
pc and now Grand Prix 2 no longer works. From either a WIN95 DOS
session or a true DOS session the screen goes blank and the pc
completely locks up, needing to be power cycled to get it going
again.

I've downloaded and installed the latest BIOS (V1.8) for the
Mystique as recommended on the Microprose web site but this made
no difference.

Can anybody out there help me ?

Thanks,

Steve Thompson

You may have to run the install for the DOS drivers. SET MGA or
something like that. Read the Readme file.
Make a batch file that runs when you start GP2 and loads the
vesa driver.
Hope this helps.

I had the exact same problem and there is no fix - only a workaround:

run gp2.exe -nointro

You won't get the opening credits but the game will never lock up.

I've got the same problem, but I've made some modifications to GP2 and now
I can play without any crashs.
GP2 don't work well with Matrox, it blocks on the introduction and on the
videos (when you finish 1st, 2nd, or 3rd of a
race, the video loaded crashed).
What you have to do, to resolve your problem :
Make a shortcut of GP2 (f1gp2.bat) and type in " gp2 nointro ". This will
pass the intro, but will not crash the game.
Also, you have to delete The ANIM sub-directory in GP2 directory, and all
of the files inside it.

Now, launch f1gp2.bat and you could be able to play without any problems
(I hope!)

Jean-Luc.

PS: Tell me the result!

Hi all..

I think that maybe you guys have some other problem than yuor matrox
card.

I have a Matrox mystique 220 card, and i have NEVER had any problems
running GP2.

I haven't done anything special, no tricks whatsoever, just installed
the game, and away we go!!

Being the disciplined person i am :-), the only thing i did when i got
the card, was to download the newest drivers, and the newest BIOS
update for the mystique.

And i keep downloading these updates whenever they are released.

It's been quite a while since i last played the game, and i am at work
right now, so i can't check it out, but as far as i remember i've
never loaded any VESA drivers prior to playing GP2.

AS i said, something else must cause the problem.

I haven't had any problems either.  I didn't even download the latest drivers.
I bought my card about 6 months ago, and everything worked fine.

Thanks to all of you who posted a reply.

Through experimentation last night I managed to find that the
'nointro' option did the trick and my use of this workaround
has been backed up by your postings.

Thanks again,

Steve
