Hi all

I'm wondering if I should update my directX drivers to DirectX 8?

I've noticed some performance increase with DX8 over DX7.  And besides, most
of the newer games require DX8, so you don't have much of a choice.

Such as?  I haven't seen one YET that *required* DX8.  I've seen a couple that
'suggested' it...

But from the reviews I've seen, it seems to be a risk to upgrade from
directX 7 to 8. So do I or do I not?

I suppose you are partly correct here.  A lot of games say that you need it
but then in the end you don't.  But I can name a few right off that I have,
that I know definitely need DX8.  One would be LS2001 and the other,
Flashpoint.

But overall the risk in going from DX7 to DX8 is very small.  DX8 is very
stable and may have some hidden advantages (besides making games run more
smoothly, in a general sense) that warrant the change.

Never heard of the two games you mentioned.  LS2001 - Links(golf game)?

If everything is running fine with DX7, I'd say stay with that.  If you see a
feature in DX8 that you want, or want to play a game that *needs* DX8, then
maybe you could take a chance.
Damn, just gave away my last $.02...<g>

Flashpoint=Operation Flashpoint.  There is a demo out for it now,
(http://www.3dfiles.com/games/operationflashpoint.shtml) and release is
not far away in the US.  VERY cool game!
