GPL sound problem (different)

My sound problem is that with many of the cars, the engine sound starts to
"breaks down" into a horrible single pitch noise at about 5000RPM. At
6000RPM, the sound is a single horrible noise, and stays that way all way up
the tacho.

The interesting bit is that this only occurs about 40% of the time. I can
often fix the problem by quitting the current session then going back into
it. The problem will either be there all the time during a session, or
never.

I am using one of the popular sound upgrades that provides different sounds
for each car. Unfortunately, I can't remember what I'm using or how to
restore the original sounds.

I get this too. I believe the new Compaq Live! drivers may fix the problem,
but the download is way to big for my 56k modem so I'm waiting for creative
to release the generic drivers.
The Compaq drivers aren't branded, btw and apparently work on non Compaq
machines.

http://alive.singnet.com.sg/drivers/ will point you to the 377mb download if
you can't wait, and it was mentioned here on RAS a few weeks ago.

Haven't tried them myself, though.

377 meg for a sound card driver!

I think we have a winner for the Bloated Code award.
