Not sure if this is the right title, but not long ago I read that Monaco
GP Racing 2 was the best open wheel sim out there and that the graphics
and internet racing were the best.  Did I read wrong?  Opinions?  I saw
it at Walden for $35 and wanted to know if I should pick it up. Oh, does
it have a decent FF?

Thanks alot

The sound is so bad I find it un-playable.  Other than that, Ahh, I never
run it.

It's not horrible, but it's not Grand Prix Legends either. The graphics are
beautiful, the track modeling is ok...some problems with elevation changes
and camber in some turns.
The sound, as a previous post pointed out, is just awful,  but like most
sims, there are plenty of replacement sounds available on the net, as well
as cars,***pits and track graphics. One plus is that Ubisoft included an
editor with the title, making it very easy to incorporate any changes you
might wish to make. I have not tried it online...but I can't imagine that it
could be better than GPL in this respect.

BTW...MGPRS2 seems to run much better since installing DX7 earlier this
week, but I need to run more to be sure.

Well, if you get it, I must say its a damn good sim. The FF is a little
weak, except when you hit the kerbs, you get massive effects then, but all
in all, in modern F1, should be really get loads of GPL style FF? I would
say not, so I wouldn't criticise the fact that you don't feel hugh amounts
of FF in regular driving, but its there and when you hit something you feel
it, same with grass o gravel, the ff is cool there but when you loose speed
the effect wears off a little for some reason. Anyway, I'd say get it and if
your unsure, wait until early 2000 and you'll have the choice of GP3 and
RS3...we'll be spoilt!   :-)

There is no doubt that MGPRS2 and GPL are the best F1 sims around.  Despite
what most people on this NG will say, GPL is not the only sim that one can
get enjoyment from.
Both titles are excellent and have different merits, but if you want modern
F1 racing, then MGPRS2 is the best - for the moment.

You've taken the words right out of my mouth.

Perhaps the only problem with MGPR2 is not the sound (I haven't
noticed any problems with it), but the fact that the real team and
track names aren't there, because of licensing problems.

Realistic looking tracks with silly names. Tut, Tut, Tut.

Doesn't have an "Official License" because the FIA would not allow internet
play during the time it was created. UbiSoft wanted to allow Internet play
on their Game Service, so they said... we'll just make an editir to allow
the painters out there to update the game and we'll be fine.

Cheers,

There are many fine carsets and track updates at http://www.mgprs2.com/

Wha...?  Is the full game(MGPRS2) that much better than the demo?  I tried the
demo, and to *me*, it SUCKED.  Sorry I don't remember my specific complaints at
the moment.  I think I still have the file around here somewhere...  I'll get
back to you.

Nice to see the '**** SUCKS' brigade back!
The demo was very limited I'm afraid.

Well, for a demo I'd say it's okay, of course it doesn't show not even
a fraction of the true potential of the game but still miles better
than i.e. the first GPL demo... ;) Based on that one, Papyrus would
have needed to put some extra money in the box.

Tel,
What's the deal with the digital (stairstep) acceleration in Ubi's F1
titles? How can you even compare them (with GPL) based on this one huge
fault?  Have you  driven ANY car equipped with an internal combustion engine
that behaved this way during acceleration/de-acceleration?
MGPR2 is well done in many areas.......unfortunately  It lacks a realistic
physics model that IMO should be the basis that is built upon, i.e. GPL ;-)

Ok, I tried the demo again.  The sound is HORRIBLE, but there are other sounds
on the web, right?  Is there any way to CALIBRATE your controller?  I know you
can set the sensitivity, but that's it.  I had a couple more gripes, but I
can't find my list.  On second look, it's not as bad as I thought before.
Although, I have a Voodoo3 now... :-)

Calibration is all taken from Win98. No need to recalibrate.  Does the demo
allow high res or is it restricted to 640x480?  Higher res great on V3!

<Shrug> whatever... AFAIK he was asking for the demo quality and here
GPL was really lacking something. Of course there are flaws in MGP but
so are in any game, including GPL.
