Can MGPR2 and GPL work with keyboard?

by Per Bj?rnekul » Sat, 14 Nov 1998 04:00:00

Hello !
I have just leaved GP2 to MGPR2. In GP2 I raced with the keyboard and did
some decent times, but now in MGPR2 I can not control my car as good as in
GP2.

1. Do I have to buy a steeringwheel to get full potential of MGPR2?

2. Is GPL handling well in keyboard control?

Thanks
Pelle

It's not nessecary, but I never saw a racecar driver control his car with an
on/off steering wheel ;)

I tried it, and it's nearly impossible.  If your 10% slower than any given
lap at any track that would be a major achievement ;)

Still, you can easily buy a joystick if you can't get yourself a wheel. It's
better than nothing, it's analog (not on/off) for the steering wheel. You
can hook up pedals in the future if you want also.

Sorry, but the only way to enjoy a sim now is having a wheel in your hands!
Enjoy it!

I second that you "need" an analog controller.  Sure, maybe some whiz is
getting good times out of a keyboard in racing sims, but an analog controller
is just so much more intuitive, satisfying and realistic.  And you can get a
decent stick for $40.  I, so far, prefer my stick to the wheels I've tried.
But I far prefer using my CH Pro Pedals for throttle/brake than using the
stick Y-axis.  To each his own ... but at least get a stick!!

Ok!
I will try to find a joystick to use, but it will not be easy for me because
I haven't used a stick since the old days of C64. And todays joystick look
like monsters.

You can control your car as good as GP2 if you activate steering help...
and find good setup but the default one is not so bad (not for all tracks).

With MGPR2 + Keyboard,  you can feel it (at least more than F1RS)

Of course with steering wheel it's better.
But using keyboard can be good too
(you can quickly change from Quake 2 to MGPR 2  or Word 7  :-)

It doesn't have to be a monster.  I like a small stick like the CH
Mach I, that gives you finger-tip control.  They sell for about $20US
or less.
