Why only one skid sound for front and rear tires in GPL??

by chog.. » Wed, 10 Mar 1999 04:00:00

This is something that gives drives me nuts about GPL.I want to know
how close to the edge my front and rear tires are.Racing a car in real
life has the driver feeling this thru the steering wheel and seat of
the pants.I dont suck at GPL and have some decent laptimes to prove it
but this is after lots and lots of laps. After so many laps with a
setup you start to learn when the rear will break loose and the
fronts.Today I downloaded Guy Cotes setup for Spa and went out for a
few laps. Its much more balanced then the default setup that I normally
use. This had me spinning out under the brakes at many turns. The reason
is that the default setup understeers heavilly and so behaves more
neuteral under a braking turn while a balanced setup will tend to go
oversteer when trail braking.By having two distinct skid sounds I
would of instantly knew that it was my rear on edge under trail
braking and applied some throttle to transfer weight on them and lower
the skid sound before spinning off the track and killing myself:).This
would help out us people that cant really imagine the weight transfer
and its effect on the chassis.I find that I have to concentrate so
much on what I think is happening that I cant concentrate on much else
and off the road I go.When I forcefully break my rears loose I want to
know how far on the edge it is.When downshifting fast I wanna know how
close to the edeg my rears are so I dont go overboard and spinout. When
entering a hairpin I want to hear my fronts sliding under throttle as
I execute the turn and then the exact moment my rears start to break
loose so I know when to feather the throttle.I wanna hear which set of
tires is breaking loose first in the turns so that i can better use my
time in the garage.Do I want to much???Is this something that sims
wont be able to provide??When I force myself to imagine this two skid
sound efffect happening the game comes to life.Nascar3 is around the
corner and I hope they do some more for the skid sounds in that
sim.Last turn at Mexico is how many Nascar tracks are and at the turn
I get a sliding on ice feel that has me feeling uncertain about the
cars handling. When ever I gun it there I oversteer heavilly since I
cant tell its my rears that are on their edge as the fronts are.I can
tell my fronts are sliding since my steering input and where the car
is haeding indicates this but my rears are a floating mystery.Either
that or my fronts are sliding while my rears are gripping like mad and
when I throttle to break the rears more loose it sends me into the wal
with severe understeer.Does anyone feel that papy should adresss this
problem with seperate skid sounds?Could there be a reason it has to be
implemented with only one skid sound for front and reare tires??Oh
well Ill just keep at it and try to imagine what my tires are doing.

I think real 3D sound would help you even more than what you're asking
for.  Would be a lot more realistic anyway...

Before you do any more thinking about GPL, do you think you could look
up the word "paragraph" in a dictionary? ;-)

WOW, Did the cost of advice go up?   Surround sound would be best...

Yeah, you slash the price just so all those who can't afford to get
their prices down will disappear...

Don't like competition, eh?  What you want is a monopoly, nothing
less, eh?  Well have I got news for ya!

My $0.019
