OK. I just did some testing:
* 2 inch, thick lawn, dry - I was a bit surprised by this one. I'm not sure
exactly what I expected, but what I got was not it. I did some power slides,
four wheel drifts, and severe understeer under power. I couldn't hear
anything but the suspension, engine and ***. I went in in neutral, no
throttle,*** my head out the open door, parking brake slide to the
drivers side... It sounded like... get this... falling snow. That is the
closest I can come to analogy and I explain sounds for a living. Very light
sound, like wind blowing lightly and slowly through heavy cloth. But if
you've ever heard snow landing, think that and amplify it.
* 2 inch, thick lawn, wet - Sounds to me like driving on water. That
slushing sound that a water ski makes, or snowboards in spring.
* Folded brown lawn - Sounds very much like dirt. Lightly brushy crackly.
Can get some low howling from wheel spin.
* Folded brown lawn, decaying landscape, lumpy - Can hear the hollow impact
of the tread wall and sidewall of the tires on top of the "folded brown
lawn" sound when hitting clods. Suspension sounds are much louder and more
frequent. The engine is, of course, sporadic.
