GP2 Bug?

Hi

Has anybody else noticed that during a race, the initial set of tyres do
not allow the car to perform to the same level as the opposition.

I have done several races at semi-pro level, and cannot get close to the
best CC lap times, however if I change tyres, then I can match or even beat
the best times.

i have noticed this on several circuits.

Any ideas?

Possibly your tyres are too cold at the start of the race? You need to
heat them up which takes a couple of laps and you may lose confidence to
drive on the limit during this tricky period.

I've certainly not noticed a problem, and cab usually open a second or
two per lap over the CCs even on Ace level. There is no difference with
each set of tyres, at least not that I have seen.

Anyone else seen this?

Cheers!
John

I can't really say that I have seen this problem.  However, it does seem
that starting the race with the at least 1 lap on the first set of race
tires "seems" to allow better grip.  It could just be a psychological
thing for me, but "scuffs" at the start stick a little bit better.  I
wonder if GP2 remembers tire temps when they are sitting in the garage?

I usually find the tyres pretty good by the end of the first lap. Can't
say I notice any increase in traction after that.

I did a ten lap race at SPA the other night. On lap 5 I lost it and had
to pit for a new nose. Prior to pitting my times seemed to be in the
region of 2:00, after pitting I was able to make 1:58. I need to try it
a few more times to convince myself though.

(John Wallace) says...

I don't know. Sometimes when I quit a qualifying session and begin it
again the tyres seem to have poor grip, like if they were the same ones I
was using before. But maybe I'm imagining things.
