HELP! GP2 BUG???

by flyi.. » Wed, 24 Jul 1996 04:00:00

Hi, all got the game 3 day ago and my pc has been open 3 times
already.

Let me tell first what I have: ST (Cyrix) 486-dx2-80, 8 mb, Cirrus
Logic 5428 Vesa Localbus video, 2-speed CD-rom, Sound Blaster compat.
Sound Galaxy (8 bit) sound card on 220,7,1. which the program sees
when I autodetect, also the sound test is ok.

When I start the game the intro starts with a loud crackle, when I
ESC it goes to the menu and keeps making a crackling sound, sometimes
at this piont the mouse is stuck, but the keys still work.

The crackling becomes at it's worst when I go to an input field where
I have a blinking cursor, like when typing in my name in one of the
teams.

I can still move on to the game and play it, frame rate (in vga)
seems ok (it suggest 25.6 fps). But I still think this cracking and
stuck mouse may influence performance.

I tried about everything from reinstalling the sound card and
software to putting sound on IRQ 5, but all to no avail.

I have got it to work 1 or 2 times with UNIVBE 5.1a, without
crackling sound.

I have also tried it with bios at most conservative settings with the
same result (stuck mouse and crackling through sound).

The crackling seems more when the screen changes from menu to another
menu.

When trying to modemlink all goes fine untill on the track then both pc get stuck and hang up (using the
same string (except for ^M on the end as suggested) as under F1GP (which worked fine).

Sound and video under other games (Rebel *** II) and windows works fine.
The sound test programs also see no problems.

Tried Univbe 5.1, 5.1a and 5.2, only difference is that mouse sometimes doesnt get stuck but crackling
sound stays.
Any suggestions???

I think Microprose provided a Microsoft mouse-driver which they recommend. Look
for it somewhere on the CD and try that one. Maybe also try to start the game
without intro ? (there's a command-line option to do so) Or even without sound
(another command-line option)

It might just work (or not :-(  )
