hi

I am not a fan of microsoft but just came back
from a store that had a demo
,,,,it was G R E A T !!!

a good rival to GT3 / PS2
better graphics
good handling
etc
I did not think much of console games before this

of course console do not hold a candle to
PC games but it is not a either or situation
I think it would be a nice family game

I beg to differ. First-Person Shooters should remain on the PC - nothing can
beat the KB/Mouse combo. I haven't tried plugging a KB/Mouse into my PS2,
but then, I don't have any FPS games, so it seems to be a false economy just
to see games I already have on PC. Arcade drivers are at home on consoles,
because a console is more pick-up-and-play. I personally would love to see a
couple of racing simulations on PS2, because the hardware can handle it, and
a broadband multiplayer game locked at 60fps would be fantastic. Hopefully
the new online racers coming out on PS2 (Grand Turismo Online, Auto
Modellista - which by the way, is looking absolutely fantastic!), should
convince PS2 developers to push some more simulation based driving games
onto the platform. Trust me, when I finish the PC version of my sim, the
first thing I am going to do is port to the PS2!

By the way, fantastic mastery of the English tongue :-)

I have it. Yawn. It's only fun for a couple of minutes. The only thing that
it has going for it, the multi player can be fun with 4 people, thats about
it.

What for?  PS2's dead isn't it?  Xbox is the current generation.

The TV advert shows the game "in action". I have to say the car handling
looked as camp as a row of tents.
I'll stick with GT2, it runs at a nice res on the PC with the emulator :-)

cheers

The current sales figures are:

PS2 +30 million
GC +4 million
XBOX expects 3.5 - 4 million by the end of June

"Looking ahead, Bach [Microsoft's Chief Xbox Officer Robbie Bach] said the
company forecasts cumulative shipments to reach between 9 million and 11
million units by June 2003, which will mark 20 months of sales for the
console since it first hit the shelves in the U.S. in November 2001.
In contrast, the PS2 shipments hit 10.6 million units at the end of March
2001, after 13 months on sale, and totaled 19.6 million after 19 months, the
closest figure available from SCEI with which to compare against Microsoft's
forecast."

You are very much mistaken.  In no way, shape or form does GT2 (or 3) handle
better than Project Gotham Racing.

That is just soooo tempting.....

You are very much mistaken.  In no way, shape or form does Project Gotham
Racing handle better than GT2 (or 3).

(simple cut and paste - how ironic :-)

It depends on your definition of the word *handle*. If you mean
realistically, then GT3 urinates all over PGR from a great height, but if
you mean just fun to slide around and enjoy yourself, then PGR is probably
better for an average console gamer. I wouldn't buy PGR if it was released
on PS2 (or even if I had an xbox), but that's just because I personally
don't like it at all.

<mega snip>

Drool, Grand Turismo Online, more drool.

I'm not going to get caught up in the PS2 vs Xbox fight, I have both. All I
will say, if a game comes out on both PS2 and Xbox (seeing how I have both),
I would probably buy it on the xbox, rather than for my PS2.

I tired both
I MUST SAY I hate microsoft
but I can't say that GT2 beats this Guaham or whatever

it is very close
but I hate to "buy" cars in a console game
I just want to get in and go
like the GT2

say the car handling
PC with the emulator :-)
does GT2 (or 3) handle

what he means by hooking up a monitor is using a computer display.  The
monitor you use with a computer often has a much higher resolution than what
a TV will produce.  However, it can also be very prone to burn-in..where the
image on the screen can be ghosted on permantly..and you would have to
figure out how to get the console to use a cable that worked with the
monitor.

Collecting the cars is half the fun in GT2, and playing with the tuning
options, seeing how weak a car you can beat the opposition in, etc.  To be
honest once you've racked up a few easy million Cr in GT2, you can buy
whatever you want.  Kitting them out with upgrades can be a chore, though.

cheers
