Rendition Performance in Racing Sims

Rendition Performance in Racing Sims

I've just tried the Destruction Derby 2 demo and the framerate is attrocious.  It's a
lo-res game (but at exactly what resoltution I know not) so what is the problem?  The
original DD demo flies.
There seems to be a big performance hit on Sega Rally demo in lo-res (320x240 as opposed
to a more standard 320x200) since I got a 3D Blaster.  It ran at what must have been
30fps with my Diamond Stealth 3D2000 no problem.  640x480 is better in Rally now than it
was with the 3D2000 but still not smooth enough for me (15-20 fps maybe?).
640x480 in DOS apps (ICR2, NCR1) is slower than on the Diamond card :(
Does anyone out there get decent (all textures, 20+ cars in front, 3+behind) framerates
at Martinsville with RENDDMA?  I'm getting about 15fps.  That's not good IMO.  Does
anyone know if Papyrus/Rendition are working on improving performance?  Quake rendition
patches just get faster & faster.

System:
P200, 430VX chipset (Award PnP Bios), 512K L2, 32Mb EDO, 3D Blaster PCI.
DMATEST = 71 (should be better)
QBench = 29.4 (640x480)

TIA for any comments/suggestions

The problem is that the Verite cards have an extremely slow VGA core.
There's not much that can be done to help ModeX games like Doom
(320x240) but for Mode13 games (320x200) you can use the renutil
program (get it from my webpage).  This program remaps the slow VGA
with VESA 320x240, allowing these games to run quite well.  I believe
DD2 is one of the games that works with this fix.

I was under the impression that DD2 only came bundled with the matrox
Card. Is there a rendition version now? Or is the fix just too help the
regular game
with the Verite.
If so is the game any good? ( rendition )
thanks.
