...Sunday's RAS N2k2 race is going to be a real humdinger!

Got on Eldred's server (thanx Eldred!) for a 17lap fixed setup race at
CocaCola.  Who joins in?  DGF (among others).  There was a real battle
going on for the lead, and at one point we were door to door for about 5
laps straight.  We fell in line again & drafted for about another 2
laps.  Going into 3, I got another good run on him & slipped by on the
inside just before turn-in.   Having to lift slightly so as not to wash
up into him, he gets beside me again by exit in T4, and we spent another
2 laps door to door.  With about 5 laps to go though, I get disco'd &
that was it.  :-)

Good to see that a long longed for r.a.s. server is coming up for
nascar racing aswell. Now, if that game would be released over here...

I've got cable.  As normal, I was also d/ling files from BearShare at
the same time, & my ping was about 50.  Once I was disco'd, I could no
longer ping Eldred's server at all.  After the race, I was talking with
both DGF & Jason Moyer in the lobby.  They were able to ping Eldred's
server & were getting ready for their own race.  Funny thing about it
is, I'm not very far away at all from the server.  25 miles tops.  I've
never had that before, even with hosts all over the world!  Oh well, it
was GREAT fun while it lasted & that's what counts.  Thanx again Eldred!

Eldred's are located in Ann Arbor, MI, I believe.  I don't know where
the servers are that DGF is supposed to be renting though.

Distance doesn't matter that much though.. I'm from Holland and never
had problems with Eldreds server in full GPL GP races..

Physical location means very little.  It all depends on how your ISP routes
traffic.  I have had mine hope across north america and back to connect to
someone down the street that's on a different ISP.

Very true, but the closer you are the better your chances. :)  I have
Charter cable and things seems pretty good. Charter sells it broad band
simular to DSL where you by it by the bandwidth. I think they are doing this
because they had a bad rap from over selling their bandwidth in the past.

Actual physical location has very little effect on conn quality.

I've known people who are within blocks of a server have terrible conns,
while others across country, have great ones.

There's just to many other factors involved.

I cancelled that server rental because Eldred said he'd host the race. He
set up the server last night so we could test it out.

You lost your nerve and disconnected. :-)

Yea, that was a lot of fun going door to door, especially at that track
because it's not easy to hold a tight line through the turns at that speed.
That little dip on entry can cause problems.

Not sure what caused you and the other driver to be disco'd at the same
moment, yet I was able to go on. I was looking forward to the finish.
