N2002. Must say I'm impressed

by Nigel Nichol » Sun, 30 Jun 2002 02:52:24

Hi guys

I have to say after downloading N2002 I am impressed. I can max all graphics
out with 19 cars and 8 sounds and the frame rate is very good even on a
Celeron 466 with Gforce 2 64 megger.
The cars feel right, look great and sounds a pretty damn good too.

Those with the full version, how is the online play.???

there is NO better title for online racing.
(GPL is a close 2nd)
(N3 is also close)
(All modern F1 titles pale in online performance)

Depends. How do you feel about getting wrecked repeatedly by a bunch of
childish idiots? (e.g. people passing on the apron in turn 1 on lap 1)

Are yes Jon

Other than the racers that think the chequered flag is just around the first
turn on the first lap.
I was more meaning the technical side of things. As in the warping issue and
general online performance.

I have done a lot of online in GPL/Vroc and have often had a gtreat time
there.  Hoping for similar time with N2002

It's actually slightly better than VROC/GPL imo.  Once big difference; you
can see more than one car behind you at a time<G>  But as Dave said, GPL and
N2002 are the best at online racing.
If you enjoy GPL's online performance, etc., you'll like N2002's.  It's
heavily based on the GPL model.
Join in a RASCAR race on Saturday's for a taste.

Thanks John

Well I'm convinced.  As yet I don't have the full version but it's gonna be
a definite buy.
I'm not sure it's available here in NZ, we tend to be a bit slow on new
releases.
I was disappointed with N3 when it came out especially after it was
originally hyped as a GPL type physics sim.

But with what I had to play with in N2002 I'll be back to the Nascar scene
real. See you online.

Thanks
Nigel

N2002 has been available here in NZ for quite some time...

http://store.gamezone.co.nz/product.x?1456416

Released on the 18th of April and very reasonably priced.

I also thought I should mention that there's a bunch of us in NZ on
the gameplanet forums that regularly race GPL locally. Pretty casual
but fun racing. Feel free to drop in and join us!

Just a word about the demo. You WILL need a faster computer for the full
version. The demo ran well on my machine with a Voodoo card and I had to get
a new video card and a GF device for my slot a Classic Athlon processor in
order for the game to run smoothly on my machine.

Oops, thought he was in Europe, sorry about that Nigel.  That'll teach me
to quit trying to cram in posting at work while looking over my shoulder at
the same time........

It's not exactly sunday morning, more like late saturday evening. A
time when i'm 90% of the time is doing something socially.

Too bad the second race disappeared, it was easier to get the midnight
race than to get the 10 pm race.

For us, yes... for Nigel, in _New Zealand_, it's a far more anti-social
hour.

Well, I just got N2002 and I must say it is AWESOME! I don't know why I
waited so long, but my preference for CART/F1 caused me to ignore this sim
for this long. Run it in OpenGL in the full game and you gain about 10fps
when in heavy traffic.

As for online play, it's GREAT! Even with my 56k modem I can race on most
servers with no problem. The only hard part is getting all CLEAN drivers for
pick up races, but I'm hoping to join a league to fix that issue. Also their
LPI/Ratings system is kind of BS. I'm running a race and some moron took out
2/3 of the field and because I was wrecked in that mess, I now have a crappy
LPI.
