about a year ago i had a look at the way gp2 and gpl define their
track data, with the idea of coming up with a 'track data interchange
format'[tm]. ie. a highlevel but complete description of the track
(just tarmac/kerbs/walls, maybe buildings).
the formats were different enough that it'd be quite a job, but they were
both 'a series of sections' kind of definitions. (is there any other type?)
i thought you'd be able to write a GP2->TDIF convertor, and a
TDIF->GP2 convertor, and do the same for all sims.
the result of the up-conversion would loose a fair bit of information,
and the down-conversions would be a bit rough, but it'd surely be
enough to give the track editor artists something to start from. and
over the years the format would evolve and the convertors would get
better.
but when i realised it'd take more that a day or two i gave up, and went
back to practicing the 'ring. sorry!
