Hello,

I downloaded the demo some days ago and i was not happy with the graphics
and framerate. But the full verion is a big surprise. I own a p4  1,7 256 mb
geforce mx 400 system and the game runs superb in 800x600 with all graphics
and all cars !! This game really rocks like hell. I did not like the first 2
ea sports f1 games, but this one is the best modern f1 sim ever made. Lets
hope gp4 will be even better.

800 x 600? Umm... was playing games at that resolution 4 years ago. Not
impressed.

Does F1002 look *that* much better than F12001? I've been a fan of the ISI
F1 series since day one and have bought every version so far but was
thinking of sitting this round out if it doesn't add much more than F12001
already has. If the graphics are superb though then that would be reason
enough. :-) I think the graphics in F12001 are good, except the shimmering
fences and the replay quality. I was hoping to hold out until ISI get around
to doing more accurate tracks and better mp, although mp is not a big issue
to me because I'm anti-social anyway.

There were tons of so-called F1 simulations 4 years ago with overwashed
bland textures.  Hehe.

The reason to upgrade is for the improved physics.  Not that F1 2001 was
particularly bad in that department, but as good as it was F1 2002 is
still better.  Also F1 2002 has improved setup management and has a
built in hack to get around the split axis problem that their previous
games had.  For me, at least, those three things are reason enough to
upgrade.

That's the first I've heard that they addressed the split axis bugaboo.

Don't know the details, but it now works properly straight out the box :)
I did try using my dx tweak setting for F1 2001 but the slightest touch of
the pedal gave half gas. Changing back to default the pedals work properly.
(The demo doesn't do this, ie. it is the same as F1 2001)

I don't have the details, since I only have the demo and the fix was not
yet implemented in the demo.  Apparently it is a .PLR file setting, but
not in the menus.  Search around in this newsgroup, there is a post from
DGF that tells how to fix it.

That's great to hear Ian.  I wasn't going to pick this up unless that
was fixed but it looks like I'll have to at least give it a go.

Anyone know specifics on what they changed in the physics model?  Is
there wheel to wheel contact now?  Locking brakes?

There is wheel to wheel collisions now, that launches your car up in the air
yes.
Locking brakes??? erhm.. you have always been able to lock the brakes even
in
F1 2001.
They have redone the suspension-geometry. They have fixed something that
made the grip at lowspeed be too low, which probablty had todo with the
suspension i guess.
They have lots of mechanical failurs, like engine, brakes etc.. aswell as
wear on them.
They have changed the inertia, it was wrong in 2001.
The objects on the track reacts to the laws of physics too.. if you hit one
of those brakemarkers, they will launch into the air.. rotate.. etc..
the wheels of the car bounce around, they can roll around on the track and
it looks real!.
