A fix for ATI and ICR2

I found a VESA driver on the ATI ftp site which may improve frame
rates for the ATI Mach 64 and ICR2.

You can get it from:

ftp://ftp.atitech.ca/pub/support/Utility/64vbe101.zip

I used the command line:

m64vbe acc

which switches on the CRT acceleration. Without the switch I get a
blank screen.

Reports on performance/reliability etc gratefully received.

Howdy.  I'm running an ATI Mach 64 on a P5/100 and this didn't
suggestion didn't work for me.  I'm still only getting about 10-11/fps
in SVGA.  If I try and run the UNIVBE driver, I get about 1-2/fps -
looks like a slideshow.  I think it has something to do with the fact
the ATI doesn't fully comply with the VESA standard.   Any more
suggestions for ATI owners would be greatly appreciated!

I Have a P90 and an ATI Mach64 2Meg VRAM. No problems whatsoever. I have
low detail, but I can get probablyabout 20-25 fps...

I have played with this quite abit.  I think Papyrus messed up with the
way they are using UniVBE in IRC2.  If the UniVBE is load outside of the
program, the 1-2 fps does not happen.  However, if the driver is loaded
by Indycar the mach64 slows to a snail pace.  There is some possibility
that the new UniVBE due out late this month will correct some of the
problems with the Mach64 (especially the chipset released the last part
of 1994 and on).  If the problem was with the ATI, telling UniVBE to
ignore the onboard BIOS should take care of the problem, but it does
not.

I tried it without loading UNIVBE - I think the ATI drivers are
supposed to replace it.

I run indycar in SVGA. I know for a fact that it is more than 15 fps
because it is much smoother than Indycar I. Mind you, the details I have
on are...

Car detail
Smoke / Dirst
Skid marks
Objects + texture maps on

I also forgot to mentioned that I use win95 and have the latest ATI
drivers for Win95. I don't know this would have anything to do with
this.

A fix for ATI and ICR2

Just to add my data in the debate... I have a P-75 (Triton) + ATI Mach64
1Meg DRAM. I get exactly 20fps in SVGA with:

objects on (no texture)
Horizon
car details
skids

I have used with or without univbe (the one inside ICR2) and with or without
the ATI vesa driver and i have seen NO DIFFERENCE in frame rate at all :(.
If you have a way to increase the fps... i'm opened to suggestions!
