3dfx Targets Corporate America
3dfx Interactive today unveiled a new product brand and strategy that
targets corporate and small business markets. 3dfx debuted the new
Velocity brand with two PC graphics cards - the Velocity 100 and
Velocity 200. The Velocity 100 is a 2D/3D board priced at $69 and
features 8MB RAM, AGP 2X support with resolutions up to 2,046 x 1,536.
The Velocity 200 features 16MB of SGRAM for better 2D/3D performance
although pricing and availability haven't yet been set.
According to 3dfx the Velocity line features the fastest 2D engine on
the market today for both Windows 98 and NT systems with full 128-bit
VGA implementations. For 3D the cards can render at resolutions up to
1,600 x 1,200 with internal 32-bit rendering and feature: per-pixel
MIP mapping and alpha blending, tri-linear MIP mapping, floating point
Z buffer, dynamic environment mapping and single-pass single cycle
bump mapping. The Velocity line is optimized for AMD's 3DNow! and the
Pentium III's SSE instructions with full 8-bit, 16-bit and 32-bit
color support. The boards are Microsoft certified for all current and
legacy operating systems (Windows 3.11, Windows 95/98, NT 3.51, NT 4.0
and OS/2) and will support Windows 2000 on release.
