John....
Its not a can of worms.....no one really cares what video card anyone uses.
I don't get the "can of worms" statement....but what ever?
The "assumption" that is made here is that frame rate is more important than
graphic quality.....if your system is "limited" in any way. That's because
the yardstick is "online racing." And that's about enough frame rate (to be
fast, competitive...or at least not be wrecking everyone around you).
There's no way that a V5 with FSAA turned on..... can be faster (better
frame rates) than a GF2 (GTS or whatever version).....not in N4 at least.
Maybe that wouldn't matter in "Tanks Of The Desert"...but it matters a lot
in N4 online racing.
As to the GF2 GTS....its one of the weaker video cards in the GF2 family
(but not the weakest). No doubt, a V5 with FSAA would be a better
picture....but with the same number of graphics detail turned on? With the
same number of AI or online human competitors....at the same screen
resolution? Not a chance!
I have three systems at the moment.....two are my primary "race boxes" (one
for GPL and one for N4). The N4 race box has a GF3 card (Hercules) and the
GPL race box has a GF2 ULTRA (Creative). On the GPL race box...I can also
run N4....and at the same settings, AI and graphic slider settings....the
GF2 is 10% faster (better frame rate)...and slightly less good looking,
graphics wise. The third system has a V5 5500 on it. I've tried it on both
"race boxes"....as Dave Henrie knows because I bugged him to death about his
settings and such....and it doesn't hold a candle to either of the Nvidia
cards....picture wise, or FPS wise. Its not even on the same planet with
them, for that matter.
I made the original reply post above to you......trying to save you the
money of finding what I've written above out for yourself. Its up to you
whether you want to take it seriously or not. I sure don't know what my
motivation would be for BS'ing you about it, though?
