products by Papyrus just keep getting better. After watching season after
season of the Winston Cup the following items, I feel, need to be incorporated
into the SIMS to bring the game closer to real life.
1) Smoke, smoke, smoke. When a Winston Cup car gets spun around and even by
itself, the smoke generated is extensive. This effect obviously requires 3d
card horsepower but needs to be at least an option for higher end machines.
This adds the reality of what oncoming traffic must navigate through and rely
on spotters. **Currently N2 & N99, when several cars get spun out at high
speeds, there is only minimal smoke and not much "fear" as far as zero vision.
2) Pit crew problems. During the Daytona 500 (and the Busch 300) there were
instances when a tire gets away from the pit crew and rolls across pit road.
This is not that infrequent, at least once in every race. **Also problems with
getting tires on, dropped jacks, and other associated pit problems that occur
in real life should happen in the game. Every pit stop cannot be 17 to 19
seconds long (no damage).
3) Debris. When an accident happens and pieces of debris scatter the track it
is possible to just drive right through it with no fear in N1, N2, and N99.
There should be some measure of hazard.
4) Flipping. Same ol'e story. Everyone wants the cars to flip. Even with the
roof flaps, flips do happen. Not often, but possible. I do not however want a
sim that looks more like Karmageddon than a Winston Cup race.
5) Weather. As far as I know the weather in N1, N2, and N99 can be set to
random or a fixed setting. I believe that the weather should change during the
course of a race requiring adjustments to setups. Not necessary to have rain
delays but definitely changing wind, temperature, clouds.
6) Full Field. I am not sure why the number of cars has been set to 39. If
the tracks are designed to be to scale, then pit road should be also. A full
field of 43 should be possible.
7) Behind the wall. Often cars sustain damage that requires them to go into
the garage for work then return to complete the race. Obviously not back to
100% but say after an accident, if engine is fixable in garage, the car is down
to 50% then after 10 to 20 laps in the garage area it can be restored to say
65% or 70% then season points can be salvaged.
These are items right off the top of my head that I thought about while
watching the D500. They all should definitely be able to turned off/on by
toggle setting for machines with or without the horsepower to run them.
