Monaco Grand Prix - Any Good?

I have to agree that MGPRS2 is the best modern F1 Sim right now. The Edios'
effort is ***but it has an "official" license which should help drive sales
but the cars are undriveable in my opinion.
Monaco has great sound with a SBLive although a lot of people can't set it up
right so they whine about that, but when you do it is great. The handling is
tough at some tracks with a lot of understeer but if you cut down on the
steering angle this virtually goes away. Another thing that a lot of "purists"
out there will say is GPL is great because it is impossible to drive (without a
wheel, and shifting yourself) but on the other hand you can reset the car with a
key stoke when you go off and actually run into the barriers then along them to
pick up speed and that is realistic? Go off in Monaco and you will lose some
serious time..... What they don't seem to realize is that Monaco is made a lot
easier because of the down force of the cars.... If the cars weren't sticking
better they wouldn't be achieving the times they do on courses that have been
slowed down with chi canes....because all the horsepower in the world is
meaningless if you can't get it on the pavement.

Only at the lower levels of realism, Michael.

It's different to GPL. MGPRS2 is the best modern F1 sim (at the moment) -
and that's that.

Well first of all it's not "that's that" because it's only your opinion, not
a fact.  Personally my opinion would say that anything made by Ubisoft is
quite miserable compared to Gp2, which I find superior and is the best
modern F1 sim at the moment.  But some people still flame me about that
since they think it's a fact (Well hmm. <cough> somehow it is hee hee) but
it's not.  I say to the original poster go get Grand Prix 2 by
Microprose/Geoff Crammond, you will enjoy it much more, it has a gameplay
much longer than any Ubisoft title will ever get.  <loads his 1979 complete
Gp2 transformation (tracks, cars, physics) and has fun racing against Gilles
Villeneuve at Montreal>.

This conversation comparing MGPRS2 and GPL is getting
SOOOOoo boring....
The games are different, and that's it. Some people spend
hours every day trying to master GPL, in that case RS2
might seem lame.
But other players like to race without having to spend
their whole freetime on it, like myself. In this case MGPRS2
is probably a better choice.
But my point is, it's no use arguing which game is 'better',
that depends on what you want from the game...

I don't know what sites you visit, but almost every true
racing reviewer I know is a simulation fan.  Randy Magruder
at Digital Sports, Scott Moore at SGN, and Scott B. Husted
at GA-Sports, along with myself lean towards true driving
simulations.

By the same token, that doesn't mean that an arcade driver
can't be fun.  I've had great times playing games like
Mario Kart or Powerslide or Motorhead.  But to claim all
reviewers think Need for Speed is the best driving game
ever is completely off base.

As for the original question, Monaco Grand Prix RS 2 is a
solid game.  It's not the best racing game in the world,
but it is better than most.  The physics may not be ultra
realistic, but that in itself doesn't make it a bad game.

I did a full review of the game at Operation Sports and I
think I judged it fairly.

  (2) There is a search engine available at
www.metacrawler.com that will return quite a few reviews.
If you read the reviews on the web, you'd probably
never buy GPL, but if you ask this NG about GPL you'll
get a completely different response.

It's mostly made from many files, carsets, etc.. that I put along myself.

I suggest you take a peek at http://www.grandprix2.com/ you will find so
many things there, hundreds of tracks, carsets,  utilities, etc..  And a
very extensive links section also !  There is a project section called "Gp2
History project", where you will find all you need to recreate any Formula1
season (well almost!) from 1950 to 1999, CART seasons, BTCC, many others !
