N2 & Diamond Monster Sound MX200

by eGGroLLi » Wed, 19 Aug 1998 04:00:00

I just installed the Diamond Monster Sound MX200 and I cannot figure a way
to get Nascar 2 to work. It runs fine when I select no sound, so it is
definitely an issue with the PCI soun card. THe card shows up in Win 98 on
IRQ 11. Is there anyway to get Nascar 2 to run with sound inside Win 98 with
the Monster sound?? My system is a PII 400 w 128 megs Abit BX-6 Mobo Win 98
Diamond Voodoo 2's in SLI...

well, for one thing , you will have to play in a dos window, but if your
using the 3dfx patched version, then you are ,
i think also, that you will have to change your gameport, to be standard
gameport,
and of course, run setup again, setup for sound blaster pro , i think,
hmm, i'll have to play with mine,
i don't use it anymore,
since i drive F1rs now

The Diamond Monster sound cards will not run N2 because it is not a
Direct Sound game.  The only option is to use Sb emulation in a DOS
box.  If you read the manual from the sound card, you would know that
while the Monster can emulate the SB, it cannot emulate the game port.
If you want to play N2, you need a sound/*** card that is supported
in DOS.

Geoff,
Thnks for the advice. I did read the manual, however, I did not want my old
Soundblaster wasting an IRQ. I was hoping there might be another way to get
sound in N2 with my new Monster. I guess I'll need to wait for Nascar 3. By
the way the Monster Sound MX200 is the equivalent of having DTS for your PC.
Unreal is well...unbelieveable...
