Nasrend mode requires a video card with a Rendition Vrit chip, and your
Diamond Stealth 3D uses S3's Virge 3D 'Decelerator' chip.

Hi all, Does anyone know how to get the Diamond Stealth 3D card to
initalize in the Nasrend mode ?? After I installed this card I can't get
the game to recognize it !! The graphics look much better, but Is this the
3D mode ?? Doesn't seem like it !!
Any help that anyone could provide is way more than I have now !! I
already tried the Diamond Web site and downloaded both the Windows 95
driver, and the DOS VESA 2.0 driver.  The game still won't Initalize the
card !!  Thanks Again !!

Hello,
The Diamond Stealth product does support 3d but not Rendition 3d. You
cannot run Rendition with a Stealth Card. I would take it back and get a
Screamin 3D. You will notice a drastic difference in frame rate and
detail.

That must be you thinking the graphics are better. There is 2 modes 2d &
3d. 2d no matter what card you got... even 3dfx wony look any different. 3d
can only be run if your card has a Rendition Verite Chip in it. Stealth 3d
has a virge chip, so there is not a single way you can run nasrend with
that card.

I have a Stealth 3D 2000 and am considering getting a Screamin' 3D so
I can use the Rendition mode in Nascar 2.  However, very few
applications as of yet make use of Rendition, and my Stealth 3D is a
very good performer in other areas.  I'm wondering if you, or anyone
else reading this, knows of a web site or something that compares
non-3D performance of Stealth 3D 2000 to the Rendition cards.  I know
I'll lose performance in 2D/windows/DOS when going to a Rendition
card, but I just want to know if the loss is worth being able to play
Nascar2 in Rendition mode.  Of course I'd rather get a 3dfx and be
able to keep my Stealth for 2D stuff, but as someone else pointed out,
looks like Sierra is more interested in promoting their own interests
than supplying the customers with what they want.

For Windows 2D stuff it will be slower, but most 2D cards are quite
accpetable by today's standards.  For VESA resolutions the two cards should
be quite similar.  The Rendition will be far behind in regular old VGA, but
when's the last time you played a game in VGA?

Don't buy a Rendition card just for that game.  A Monster 3D card along
with a Diamond Stealth is an awesome combination for 2D/3D.

Speak for yourself.  Maybe Nascar2 is his favorite game so a Rendition
card may be a good choice.  I replaced my Millenium with a Reactor and
haven't been disappointed at all from a 2D performance standpoint.  As
long as he doesn't want to play Doom he could be very happy.

Well, being the person he was making the suggestion to, I'll say that
Nascar2 is, in fact, my favorite game right now.  However, as I'm sure
you as a Rendition owner are well aware (doh, etc), there are lots of
cool games out for 3dfx, and more to come.  I don't even know if there
is a Doom for 3dfx... Nor care.  The 3dfx's tech support, driver
support, and most importantly, game support, seems to be miles ahead
of Rendition (aside from Nascar2).  If it weren't for Nascar2, I
wouldn't even have to think twice.  Anyway, I've decided to get a
3dfx.  As much as I'd like to play Nascar2 enhanced, it's not worth
buying a video card just for it, when I'd be giving up so much in the
other direction (not just 2D performance, but missing out on the
3dfx).  All I can say is that I hope Nascar3 uses Direct3D or is 3dfx
enhanced also or something, otherwise Sierra won't be getting my money
for it.

Just out of interest as I have a 2000 3d and was disapointed f1 would
not work, do you need to plug the monitor into the Monster card or is
there some internal connecting cable between the two cards.

Skeeter,

I do not know of such a site for a comparison, but I too am very satisfied
with my Stealth 3D 2000.  I went to a dos prompt and ran nasrend and the
other two dos commands (cant' think of the file names right now!) and I
could swear that I now see some 3D effect on the Sears Point and Watkins
Glen tracks that wasn't there before!!

When I ran these dos commands for Nasrend, etc. I got unrecognized vidoe
card messages, but still ran all three and then went back to N2 in Win95.
I know it sounds crazy, but I still think it did something to give a 3D
effect.  Try it out and see if you don't agree, I'd really be interested in
hearing a second opinion.
