Got my GP 500 Today (in Canada)!

Hi,

Received my copy of GP 500 from Britain today. Cost about $46.35US (about a
thousand Canadian $!), with shipping, and took 9 days to western Canada.

In stock at: http://www.racesimcentral.net/

In my opinion, it is way, way, better than AMA Superbike. All that up, down
and around motion of the view in AMA makes me feel ill, and I just don't
feel like I'm riding a motorcycle. I know, it will be better with the next
release...

The GP 500 handling limits are pretty far out there, so it takes awhile to
start sliding the tires, but it's starting to feel like a bike to me. A
better controller than a steering wheel would be nice.

Speaking of which, the best controller set-up for a bike sim I've used is
the set-up on "Isle of Man TT" in the arcades. If I remember correctly, the
bars are fixed, and you steer by leaning the "bike chassis". It feels more
like the counter steering you do on a real motorcycle. Maybe have to build
something like that. And you really need a rear brake...

I guess it's personnaly preferences.  I prefer AMA's realistic motion than
the flat and smooth tracks in GP500, and I prefer the shaky and (imho)
realistic motion of the view in AMA, it really makes me feel I'm riding a
motorcycle.  lol well nobody ever agrees on everything :)

In the arcade business this type of controllers were used by many consoles
as inputs.  SEGA had many of them back in the early days with Hang-On (must
have been the early 80's), and Hang-On 2.  You sat on the bike, and when the
game started you could lean one side or the other.  The bars were fixed also
like you said.  I remember looking at the electronics of one old machine, it
seems like a simple mechanism that could be easily redone on a PC controller
via one simple axis.

yeah but, (to bring back the gpl thread)  he's running in the chase
mode.  If your on the bike you should be on the bike, not some angel
floating 10 feet behind it....:>
